Do you think Obama could name the ranks of the military in order?

How can the media gatekeepers support and brainwash Americans to think someone is so qualified when he more than likely could not decipher the difference between a Colonel, Major, or Master Warrant Officer? How can these officers respect and take orders from someone like that?

Oh well, there have been many POTUS in the past that probably couldn't do it either.  I don't care for Obama, but POTUSs that never been in the military became great...for instance, Abe Lincoln.

I wouldn't care if the POTUS didn't care for the military.  Those officers BETTER respect the Commander-in-Chief!  If I ever saw an officer disrespect the POTUS, I would tactfully address the problem to him;  I'll find his superior and request that the Officer to be  dealt with accordingly to the UCMJ.

I don't care for Pres. Bush nor ever voted for him, but I respect my Commander-in-Chief!

If the American people are so militant they need not vote a civilian for the post..why not vote a general instead...the general can then wag war for the american people..only American have the right to lived in this world..LONG LIVe AMERICA

This is the guy who said he'd been to 57 states. The guy who thinks they speak Arabic in Afghanistan. The guy who thinks the Great Lakes are in Oregon. Need I go on?

Obama is not an idiot. But I am very anxious about those soldiers  in Iraq. We should support our heroes who serving our nation. Support our troops that safeguard our safety! Military ranks is something you learn in the military, not in politics. I wouldn't expect Obama to know them. McCain should know them becuase he's prior service.

If Obama becomes President, he'll have advisers and he'll only be working with a few of the higher ranking Military. There is no reason why he should know all the ranks in order.

Adam B brings up an excellent point.  Military matters are not supposed to be the Forte of a president.  That's what adivsors are for.

No, such knowledge would drive him insane.  He has to delegate his authority to people qualified in those particular fields.  Otherwise, this country could never be run.

Well, given there is no such thing as Master Warrant Officer I doubt you could even name all the ranks.  But I do agree with you that Obama wouldn't have a clue which ranks belong to whom.

The president is a civilian office.  He is not required to memorize your lists of who has how many stripes on his uniform.  He deals with those a bit higher up the chain of command than that.

What you ask is akin to saying that McCain can't be president unless he can name all of the capitals of Asia.  Because how can we trust him to deal with Asian countries if he doesn't know every single one by heart?  It makes no sense.  This is what advisors are for.
