Those are GCSE's. Would it make a difference if I did really well at A levels?

  1. A lot of people here are saying you need A*s for all of them, but I wouldn't worry because Oxford is much more interested in your A-Levels which hopefully will get better results for. So study hard and don't leave studying until the last week.

In order to be admitted, candidates must show evidence of an appropriate educational background and good standards of literacy and numeracy. However, the University does not have any formal matriculation requirements, and no requirement for any particular subjects or grades at GCSE, though tutors will use these grades as one indicator of academic ability.

All applications are considered carefully on their individual merits and tutors consider academic achievements, predicted grades, candidates’ personal statements and academic references as well as any written work or written test that may be required as part of the application. Candidates who feel that they under-performed at GCSE may be able to compensate for this by demonstrating clear upward progression at AS-level as well as in predicted or achieved A-level scores. You may wish to refer to this in your personal statement.

Providing that you meet any specific requirements for your course, they recommend you to take those subjects that interest you most and in which you feel you have the ability to do best. Tutors are much more interested in candidates’ overall academic ability, and their potential and motivation for the course at Oxford, than the particular programmes which have been followed at school.

Competition is strong and conditional offers are likely to be for high grades. The offer may specify certain grades to be achieved in particular subjects if they have not been achieved already.

  2. Your results are very good , but you need to improve more were you are not so good. GOOD LUCK IN FUTURE

  3. I've heard that they like 8-12 A*'s, but that's only for a provisional place - if your A-Level results are good enough, and you impress them in the interview, I think you would stand a chance. :) Your results are great, and if you can show them how hard you would work in the interview, they may be more likely to take you. =]

  4. Oh my God i just got my gcse results today and wondered the same thing. I have exactly what you got, my strange twin. I so badly want to go, and there is quite a lot of pressure on me. It feels like it's all over now, and it is so unlikely. Au contraire, many universities are around to accept you and you need really good AS. And out of class work in your subject area.  Remember thats quite a lot of gcses u have there: 12! It will take a lot of work, and perhaps taking 5 AS will imprve your chances. If you are scientifically inclined, they are more likely to take you on. I wish you all the best, and perhaps we'll meet up there...voodoo.

And besides, when you are 18 things will sort out. You or i may not be old enough to know that oxbridge is not for us, ansd that there are opportunities out there. Far further than a good uni.

  5. its all about the A'Level results and what school/area you come from.  I had several friends apply who had excellent results and they were turned down - unfortbunately although they try to deny it there is still a lot of snobbery attached to those two institutions.

  6. They'll look more at your AS level results than your GCSEs. Of course they'd prefer you had all As or A*s but if your A-level results are impressive enough and you interview well, it won't necessarily matter.

  7. No way.  Straighs A's i'm afraid.  You need to be top of your class in everything.
