It would explain his weird vision and change of personality.

7Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me--to keep me from exalting myself!

8Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me.

9And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness " Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

Others suppose the expression refers to "a pain in the ear or head," epileptic fits, or, in general, to some severe physical infirmity, which was a hindrance to the apostle in his work (comp. 1 Cor. 2:3; 2 Cor. 10:10; 11:30; Gal. 4:13, 14; 6:17). It has been suggested that his malady was a defect of sight caused the dazzling light which shone around him at his conversion. This would account for the statements in Gal. 4:14; 2 Cor. 10:10; also Acts 23:5, and for his generally making use of the help of an amanuensis (comp. Rom. 16:22, etc.).

  1. It's been conjectured that the Apostle Shaul's (Paul's) thorn in the flesh was glaucoma. Having the dreaded disease in my own eyes at the age of 33, I can understand the feeling of thorns and have implored the LORD many times to take the pain from me. Thank G-d for my xalatan drops or I probably wouldn't be writing this now. Glaucoma can cause blindness.  Shaul’s failing eyesight may explain why, in at least one letter, he wrote “in large letters” (Galatians 6:11).  The “large letters” may point to myopia--near sightedness.

  2. No, I don't believe so.

  3. I always thought he was g*y since he wasn't married.

  4. Either that or hemorrhoids.

  5. That will teach Paul from not wearing garden gloves when pulling out the thorns of hate.
