  1. In Virginia and the Carolinas, the accent difference is more east-west than north-south.  To me, people from Arlington, Richmond, etc have an east coast accent, so do people from Raleigh and Charleston, but the accent is much more southern as you go west.


  2. I'm from the upper midwest, so yes, in my opinion, people in s. Virginia definitely have an accent.  It's a nice accent, easy enough for me to understand.  By the way, I absolutely LOVE the Blue Ridge Mountains and that whole area. The people are SO nice!

    I've noticed a southern accent in the general public as far north as central Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, which really surprised me.  I always thought "southern" started a little further south.

  3. I lived there for a while and everyone tells me I have an accent, but I don't notice it myself.
