I think the two would go together nicely. It would give me the flexibility to do something human resources, or management related.

What does everyone else think?

  1. I agree with Jopaku, unless you plan to work as a counselor?

First decide what you interests are and let that guide your course of study.

If you are unsure then in general the business major will open a few more doors.

  2. The era of majoring in something, graduating and then getting a steady life-long job is over.  Business will not "open more doors."  Psychology will not "open more doors."  They won't open any doors unless you are a standout in some other significant way (i.e. 4.0 GPA, numerous extra-curricular achievements, leadership experiences, etc.).  If you're a run-of-the-mill psych or business major, you're one of millions across the country looking to find his/her place in the world, and should therefore be planning to continue working toward higher education.

Psychology is a great major, but it's just a start.  If you like business, you ought to be thinking about an MBA, law school or other graduate study.  If you really like psychology, you might think about a Master's of Social Work, psychology doctorate, medical school, or something related like neuroscience.

  3. Yes, I believe they would go together very well. You could try a variety of fields - social work, psychologist, any business related at a management level or even a top executive level. There are many possibilities. Don't worry about having the Psych as a major. If it interests you, then later in life you will be able to provide others with much needed help. Gosh, we need you to graduate NOW!

I have a Business Administration Degree. It has provided me many opportunities in business from working in government to working with disadvantaged children. I did not take Psych because I believed I wasn't smart enough (I kick myself now).

If you enjoy Psychology, take it as the major. You never know what it will bring to you once you've completed it. There are always opportunities - some of them are not even here yet but will be. Our aging baby-boomer population is going to provide young people with many opportunities for satisfying employment. I wish you well.

  4. I think the other way around sounds a little better.
