There is so much talk about drug taking in athletics and it's creeping into other sports like tennis.

  1. I dont think anybody can really tell if any sport person takes any kind of substance - only themselves, and sometimes not even!

But in the case of Nadal, I dont really think he does - his game is not specifically strong or powerful - he doesnt get the fastest balls or more aces than anybody - he just gives everything back.

And I think this is because of the greatest psychilogical strenght - he doesnt give any point for lost or take anything for granted, he fights for absolutely everything no matter what moment of the match it is -

And there are no drugs to give u that kind of mental strength

  2. If you mean is he taking anabolic steroids?

    No,I don't think so.

The degree of muscle he has is well within what a person can achive without drugs.

He's just a naturally muscular young man who works very hard.

And you really don't need large muscles to hit hard. It's far more an issue of timing.I do think a muscular build helps a player alot with movement, and dealing with an opponents power.

Tennis is in compliance with WADA.

  3. naw i doubt it...he wud get tested sure...i reckon he jus works out alot and take lots of protein shakes b4 and after weight training..protein shakes are legal!

  4. I understand why someone would think so, the guy is amazing; HOWEVER, he isn't taking performance enhancers. If he was, he'd have been caught. Tennis has one of the best drug testing systems; the players get checked all the time. I don't think any of the top players are stupid enough to risk getting caught, so they would never touch the stuff.

  5. I think you are very wrong to discredit hard-working athletes like Nadal by accusing them of using performance enhancing drugs. Nadal spends 6 hours a day in the gym and is completely dedicated to tennis and does not need to get himself suspending for taking drugs he doesn't need. I am rather outraged by your insolence.

  6. no!!!

  7. For the last time! He does not need to take performance enhancing drugs. We would have heard about it by now if he does. The testing done on players is mainly done after winning a match. So therefore none of the players at the moment are taking any kind of drug. These players work hard, ALL of them. Give them credit for the long days they put in practicing to become good at their job.

The last person to get caught with an illegal substance in their system was Martina Hingis. (and she didn't even try to fight it)

  9. im going to keep this short and sweet...

    no

  10. not likely, most people don't know this, but players (specially in slams and masters) that get further in (i believe it starts in quarters) have to take obligatory, not aleatory, blood tests, and it's kind of hard to fake it there.-

still, i don't think players in that level are that stupid, there's so much to lose than to win doing those kinds of things at that level.-

  11. are you nuts? do you think he could play where he is right now with those stuffs in him? remember what happened to those argentinians? maybe you should be responsible next time with those queries not maligning the credibility and integrity of these world class athletes.

  12. Do performance enhancing drugs suddenly make a person play better tennis? I might be wrong but the only thing they might make you do is last longer, hit harder shots. I don't think Rafa hits particularly hard shots.

His strength on clay is his bane on other courts. So, since he does so well on clay, people like yourself try to find ways of showing him in poor light. Are you a federer fan?

  13. I absolutely agree that your question is legitimate and I see no reason to accuse you of any ulterior motive. You have phrased your question correctly and it doesn't assume that the answer is yes.

That being said,I agree absolutely and for all the reasons already stated by the overwhelming majority here that Nadal is NOT taking any kind of illegal substance to give him an unfair advantage over the other players!

As for jimmy le somethig or other, his answer deserves to be eliminated. What a slur to cast on Spain! Over the last few years all the major illegal substance scandals of prominent athletes  have occurred in the U.S.A. Everything from Baseball to Athletics(Track&Field) has been contaminated and drug abuse has been proved!!!   In fact the U.S. coach of the World Cup basketball team of 2006(or 2007?) said that it was hard to attract the best players to play for team USA because most of them were afraid that their cocaine habit would show up on the more rigorous international tests!! That was  said by the coach from the USA!!!

jimmy le's aspersion on Spanish sports is Waaaaay out of line and he should apologise.

I'm an American and I think his attitude stinks.

  14. Dont be ridiculous. Rafael Nadal would never resort to using drugs of any sort. Rafa is a true champion and works hard to win matches, he is very talented young player. To question he uses drugs is simply unbelievable. Im just shocked. I could bet my life Rafa would never use DRUGS ever !!!

    Vamos Rafa x*x

  15. It's absurd that you're being ridiculed for asking this question.  This is definitely worth asking.  Given the past 5 years of Professional Sports in Spain, one has to wonder.  Look at the guys physique, and seemingly endless amount of stamina and strength.

  16. no

  17. I agree with Jimmy.le.  Anyone who criticizes Nadal on this board gets ridiculed, even if their criticisms are legitimate, like his repulsive habit of picking his butt, amongst a myriad of other obnoxious habits.

  18. i don't think so.

  19. What makes you think that Nadal is using drugs?

  20. No, u are probably just a hater.Nadal came into tennis looking buff even at the age of 16 and these players get tested.Don't u think after years of being at the top of men's tennis he'd have been busted already? jeeez, use ur head please.

  21. No way, he would have been caught already.  The ATP and WTA have very thorough doping tests, and test players not only at events, but also randomly and without notice when they are out of competition.  Rafa is all-natural.

  22. I highly doubt it. I dont think he would be foolish enough or needs to do such a thing. Especially these days when tests are constantly being given. Athletes might be tempted in doing so, to improve, or try and improve thinking these drugs will help, but Nadal has no reason. Also, after a period of time, these drugs only bring on injuries, and you see them mostly in baseball, football, basketball, than tennis. You can always tell , have an idea who is on them, by the way they are built, if they have bulked up so suddenly, and always having an injury. Nadal has a very high exercise/work out ethic and maintains it.
