Yes I know he lost, but it was anyones match. Clearly Federer has still got what it takes to win grand slams, he just wasn't the best player on the bigger points today. But yeah. I think Roger's critics should shut up now cos hes clearly just as good as he was, Rafa has just got a bit better. But there was nothing between those two men today! Theres no doubt in my mind Roger will win more grand slams. Do you think they will finally get off his back?

  1. Hopefully, but there will always be critics

  2. No, I think they'll just keep aiming for him now that they know they were right. They're going to say that Nadal or Djokovic will win the US Open.

  3. critics never shut up..there job is tear u down, even after u prove them wrong..see: PEYTON MANNING for example..

  4. Yes. I hope so. He really made Rafa work for that title. I thought for sure he would win. but playing on nerves was just too much. Any one who said Roger's career is dead didn't witness the tennis he played today. really.

  5. First off, I'm a Rafa fan. However, at the moment, probably the biggest threat to Federer on hard courts is still Djokovic (sp?).

We all know that Rafa is great on clay. He's proved he's excellent on grass. However, Federer still has 12 Grand Slam titles. And unless something happens, he'll be around for a few more years. Today was just about anyone's game. Rafa had lead, then Federer took over. The end was just about heart.

I personally hope to see both men back in next year's final to duke it out again. Because unless Rafa, or someone else, can take a few more of those Grand Slam titles, Federer should still be considered #1.

  6. Sadly, I don't think critics ever "shut their faces".  :P

You are right.  Federer was not really any worse.  Nadal was just much better than he used to be.  I think Nadal's serve has improved immensely, and he was able to count on it when it really counted in the last set.

In spite of this very, very close match, they will still say that Roger is on the decline.  Even though he beat everyone else in his path convincingly, he is inconsistent.  Like I said in one of my questions, some people just relish the failure and misfortune of others, for whatever reason.

No doubt, Roger cannot be dominant forever.  Perhaps this IS the beginning of the end.  But until he starts losing more than he wins, I don't think people should count him out.  Yes, I agree, he will definitely win more grand slams.

On a separate note, I'm just glad his loss today was to Nadal, the most humble player out there.  He's so unbelievably gracious.  I'm sure it would have been more painful for Roger if he had to watch the cocky Novak Djokovic raising that trophy.  I'm sure he prefers to lose to people he actually likes and admires.

Oh, and about supersquirrel103... take her comments with a grain of salt.  ;)

  7. What a wonderful game of tennis. Both players should be proud of themselves but obviously when one loses there is disappointment. Nadal on the day proved a fighter and shows he'll win many more. Federer won't go away. I am delighted Nadal won. Wouldn't have missed getting up and watching despite the rain delays.

  8. Im extremely happy, theres no denieing it :) ! However ive heard some ppl say after the match (commentators) that Roger may do a justin henin and retire. Which is a load of bull.... I mean he is still #1 and as Rafa said in his speech he is still the best player in the world right now. Theres no doubt Roger will continue to win more grandslams, he is defending champion at the US ? I would like to see Roger win the French and complete all the grand slams !!!! He can still do it, he still has passion for the game and is an unbelievable tennis player. !!! It just going to get a lot harder with Rafa/Novak and all the other upcoming players something Fed will be aware of but i dont think thats going to stop him he`s not been #1 in the world for 5years for no reason lol !!!

Anyway as of todays match what a battle !!!! Simply amazing the best ive seen at wimbledon for sure. I was sooo nervous when Rafa screwed up the championship points in the 4th set :( I thought this would put him off, then i started thinking of last years final argh !!!! But he did well kept his concentration and served pretty good during the 5th. Also federer, what does it take to break that guy !!! Nadal has all these break point opportunities especially in the 5th and cant convert, Roger would hit an ace :P or an amazing forehand down the line. Just what a match. Two of the best players in the world battling it out on centre court, boy i wish i was there !
