He has given so many memorable matches at the US Open, especially playing in the evening session (remember matches against Federer, Blake last year). It's pity that he has been at the wrong side of the fence at each time. But he gave his all in those matches. He has a match against Andy Roddick in Arther Ashe stadium during the evening session, today. Do you think it will be a memorable one?

  1. I was at the Open for Santoro Blake last year, and it was a highly entertaining match. Santoro is a really funny guy to watch, he's a jokester, but he also put his all into the match. I actually just got last minute tickets to the evening session tonight, and was absolutely thrilled to see that Santoro is playing Roddick. I'm humbled by my luck!

  2. Absolutely! EVERY Santoro match is entertaining. I've seen him in person and on television and have enjoyed it each time.

How can you not love the guy?

Santoro has defeated 17 players who were ranked World No. 1 at some time during their careers (Jimmy Connors, Mats Wilander, Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg, Jim Courier, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Thomas Muster, Marcelo Rios, Gustavo Kuerten, Carlos Moya, Pat Rafter, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Marat Safin, Lleyton Hewitt, Andy Roddick, and Roger Federer).

Santoro won the longest singles match in the open era. At the 2004 French Open, he beat fellow Frenchman Arnaud Clement in a 6h 33m first round match 6–4, 6–3, 6–7, 3–6, 16–14.

At the 2007 U.S. Open, Santoro tied Agassi's record of 61 appearances in Grand Slam singles tournament. He then broke the record with his participation in the 2008 Australian Open.

Santoro is 7–2 lifetime against Safin. Safin has said, "being told I would play Santoro was being told I was to die."

Santoro won the 2005 French Open doubles title and the 2003 and 2004 Australian Open Doubles titles, and was runner-up in doubles at the 2002 Australian Open, 2004 French Open and at 2006 Wimbledon.

He also won he won the French Open mixed doubles title with Daniela Hantuchová.

Tennis legend Pete Sampras nicknamed Santoro "The Magician" because of his arsenal of spins, trick shots and innovative style.

He's won 13 singles titles and 26 doubles titles despite having no big "power" weapon....he just has a great attitude, an I'm-having-a-blast-doing-this smile, and the intelligence to know what spins counteract the megapower of his opponents.

My answer........YES! Santoro will be a blast to wacth....as always!

  3. Knowing Santoro they could very well play until midnight! He's always fun to watch, he puts so much into his matches, gotta love the guy.
