  1. no but wen she is like 10 or 15 then make her take it asap

  2. Self Defense?  Mandatory for girls?  No . . . Martial arts? I would not say mandatory, however consider this . . .

What if the martial arts (all of it not just defense and fighting skills) were considered as part of everyones academics, much like reading and writing.  Martial arts taught properly and completely instill respect, confidence, honor, discipline . . .  Things that everyone would greatly benefit from . . . .  I'd vote for this . .  .

  3. maybe

  4. Mandatory, no ... but encouraged, yes ... but not when a child is one year old.  They're learning so many other important things at that time, too much to absorb in their little brains! :)

Age 5 or 6 would be a better choice. At the YW, they give tae kwon do to children starting at age 5.  That's also when most start school.  Muscles, reflexes better at that time, bones stronger too.  One year (or when starting to walk) is way too early.

  5. no because if you make it law for anyone girls, boys, or both, to learn to defend themselves that would make it the people's responsibility to protect themselves when it is supposed to be the polices's job to protect the people.

Basically I don't think it should be required because people aren't supposed to "have" to defend themselves that's police's job whether it's unrealistic or not.

  6. It shouldn't be mandatory.  It's a good idea for everyone though.

If anybody needs self defense classes, it's boys.  Men are more likely to become victims of crime than women are, by a pretty large margin for most serious crimes (I believe men are more than 3x as likely to be murdered, for instance).

  7. Might as well take day care while you're small.. you wont learn anything.

I agree with the whole cop concept as said above, but what if you're in the desolate dark with nothing around you? I don't think the cops would catch up to you in time. I been out in the dark with the exception that I'm a guy, and there was many chances for me to be assaulted and gotten away with. Cops wont always be there for everything.

And if you try to force people to do something they don't want, they might abuse it, boy or girl.

What's worse than a bully in general would be TRAINED bully. Then it would be called self-offense!

I just think that not everyone should take it, but it should be more out there and better informed to parents and what not. Because there are some people that want to do something, but they don't understand how to start or where to go, neither do their parents.

As much as i'd like what you said to come true, it's just like trying to stop global warming, no one's gonna listen, some people aren't gonna agree. And we have to respect their opinions/choices.

  8. why not for all kids?

  9. Yes and part of the Board of Education program!

    Obama 2008!

    Ebony & Ivory President!

  10. i don't think self defense classes should be mandatory for anyone at any time. but should be available and encouraged for everyone at any time...if they so choose. but you can't make someone learn self defense if they don't want to. i've tried and tried and tried to get my niece to take a hapkido or jujutsu class...the fact is, she'd rather do ballet...and that's ok too.
