  1. This is American, people speak english. Learn it or get out.

  2. When Aztlan stops being funded and controlled by USA, when Mexico can afford to cover the cost of operating the infrastructure, utilities, educational and governmental system... then start making plans.

Until then, USA owns it and English is the country's universal language.

Mexico should attempt to takeover Aztlan because Mexico has done so incredibly much to gain the trust, loyalty and admiration from their own people who steadfastly wish to remain within the borders of Mexico as it is today, right?

  3. Nope. If anyone ever tries to implement this Aztlan business, a lot of Spanish will be spoken over some grave sites in Mexico is my prediction.

  4. No! because were an english speaking country?

  5. There is NO OFFICIAL LANGUAGE IN THE USA. There never has been an official language in the country as a whole, English was just the most common language spoken/language government did business through etc etc etc.

Over about the last two years the official language has become a very hot topic as part of much immigration legislation. On May 18, 2006, the Senate voted on an amendment to an immigration reform bill that would declare English the national language of the United States. The immigration reform bill itself, S. 2611, was passed in the Senate on May 25, 2006, and then to the House of Representatives where it was not agreed upon.

In June 07 with a vote of 64-33, lawmakers approved an amendment to the bill by Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., that would establish English as the national language of the United States.

There are in fact several bills pending with the house of representatives that would make English an official language of the United States but as of right now there is NO official language

The official language debate has been largely over shadowed by the other issues in the immigration debate.

I think the whole way that there are so many bills that are making it to debate & voting is particularly interesting when taken into account the origins of why there was no official language in the USA. The FOUNDING FATHERS specifically left out an official language to counter the oppressive statutes that most European countries had put forth that essentially forced people to speak a certain language and practice a certain religion.

America was founded on the principle that All people were free, could say whatever they wanted, in which ever language they wanted without any fear of reprisal from the Government.

This is anecdotally supported by the first amendment right to free speech. For, how can what you say be a right, if what language you say it in is dictated by the State.

Sad to see in all the hysteria related to the immigration debate that the US could loose this important principle/right & the lack of public outcry. A very sad reflection on the state of our society that people do not know facts about their own country & show a complete lack of respect for the origins of the country & a lack of a very basic respect for fellow human beings. Shame on the ignorance of these people!

  6. No!  There is no better way to divide a country than to make it so their citizens cant even communicate with each other anymore.  Look at Canada!

  7. the states is free enough that allow to speak any language from ant part of the world.

but, the official language MUST remain English.

i live in miami, MY community speak 27 different languages ,every day.

I love that!!! but I also love the fact ,that ,when I  can say it in Their language I have all the right to say it in English, and vice versa from Them.

I am a four language speaker.

  8. Heavens NO!

  9. No.

If the illegals went home, the number of primarily-Spanish-speakers in your fictional "Aztlan" would decrease by 90%.  Then, no issue.  Why should the Mexicans expect to receive special treatment that the Italians, French, Germans, Chinese, etc., did not need to succeed?

  10. No. English is the language of buisness world over. The way Latin once was. So all Americans must be fluent in it. This is due to the legacy of the British Empire. Just as Latin once was to the Roman. Besides which the truth is we are already giving too much to this. We have always expected Immigrants to assimilate while remaing proud of their heiritage. Right now American government orginzations like the SSA for example pay more for Spanish and other forigion language interpreters than they do for sign language interpreters for native deaf Americans with families that go back several hundred years. It is a way of thinking that must be reversed. You go anywhere in the southwest to a federal office of any kind and you will find dozens of hispanic workers. In any angency and next to no disabled, especially deaf. You will see a Hispanic single mother who can barely speak English and six kids get better treatment than American born disabled, trying to get an education and employment, off the system. That is wrong. I am not prejuidiced and I am not without compassion. But we should require our government to take care of our own with more respect first. The truth is the easiest way for many illegals to make it, if female is brutually simple. Get over the line. Then have as many babies as possible in the USA. Each one is an American citizen. Each one makes it less likely mom will be deported and each can get some form of American aid including SSDI and other welfare. The more babies produced the better the whole familys over all income. Compare that with the experience of past immgrant groups. They had to assimilate. And struggle, including past Hispanic. The responsibility of our government in agencies like the SSA should be first to aged and disabled Americans.

  11. Yes...as soon as Aztlan can be established as a separate country. Perhaps they should first consult with Dixie as to how to proceed!

I realy don't think the Mexicans want another American army in Mexico City, do you?

  12. That would legitimize immigrants who do not assimilate, which is the biggest problem with illegal immigrants. Why the h**l would we want to do that?

  13. NO WAY.

  14. No.  "Susan" said it well.  Look down at the bottom of this page for a *perfect* example of that.  And I'm not talking about anything to do with the USA.

  15. Absolutely not.

English should be the single official language for the entire United States.

All official government business & documents should be conducted in English only.

Making new LEGAL immigrants learn English as soon as possible is best for them and for society.

English is the language of prosperity in this country.  You simply have to know it, understand it and use it.

English is also a key element to the American culture.

  16. Okay, this issue wears on me worse than anything.  We are in The United States of AMERICA not MEXICO.  If I were to move to France, I would be expected to learn their languege, abide by their laws and respect their culture....why the h**l do people think that all of these immigrants...illegal or not need to have all of this special treatment?  Why the h**l do we bend over backwards for people who do nothing but leech our resources?  From what I have seen the majority of people in this country (not all but most) that DON'T speak a l**k of English are the ones that are here illegally....why do we have to accomodate them.  I think it is ridiculous that honest Americans have difficulty finding jobs because they are not bilingual, if they were applying for a job in some sort of vacation town or something or something where they are going to be doing international work then YES by all means require it but when you can't get a regular blue collar job because you are limited to the OFFICIAL LANGUAGE of your country it is RIDICULOUS.  Now like I said there are exceptions, there are some here that are here totally legally that still don't have a grasp on the english language...my babysitter is one of them, but she at least TRIES and when she can't communicate something she gets someone to translate...she doesn't expect me to have to go take a bunch of spanish courses.  We shouldn't have to press 1 for English!

  17. Yes we should all know how to communicate in English.

But to make it the official language?

How are you going to enforce it?

  18. I do not want to see ANY language made the "official" language in the U.S.  I think it will create a lot more problems than it solves, and cost a LOT of money.
