  1. For use of system resources NO, but unfortunately with Microsoft's marketing Yes.

It is a sad fact of modern computing that most people's knowledge of operating systems lies squarely with the machine they have bought off of the shelf. Almost all new computers at this time come pre-installed with Vista, leading to Microsoft claiming the success of their latest incarnation of Windoze despite poor take-up of people actually upgrading to it on older machines.Windows 7 will be based on Vista, which in itself copies features and applications that have been pioneered on Mac and Linux for a long time. Even IE7/8 only barely manages to keep up with Firefox and Opera.

Before Vista was released (inflicted on people), I heard people who were eager to upgrade, based on solely Microsoft's marketing and guess what? I've had the last laugh because I can say 'TOLD YOU SO'.

Now for the the sad bit. There are a number of Apps and Games that only work with Windoze (yes I know about Wine), some are XP(oop) and Vista only. Until Joe Public gets off of it's lazy gluteus maximus, everything related to personal computing will be dominated by Microsoft.

  2. it just goes to show you how c**p vista is

it is/was due to be replaced by windows 7 in 2009 not long a life for vista is it ,

but if it is anything like vista i think it will fail miserably.

i think vista was realy released as a test bed for windows 7.

i think i will stick to XP.

  3. Probably but not with Mint Linux or Fedora.

Of course it will. Windows products are made to work without needing tweaking but Linux needs more knowledge to make it work.

  4. As long as it's less of a pain in the **** than Vista I don't care.

I have actually thought of using Ubuntu instead of Vista. The only thing that stopped me was a lot of compatibility issues with some of my hardware. Although I'm still curious.

I was reading about Windows 7 a few days ago and according to what somebody wrote it's going to promise little and deliver a lot. The exact oppsite of Vista
