Question:

Do you think a 20 month old boy obsessed with cars would enjoy the Disney/Pixar movie 'Cars'?

If you are one of those people who want to tell me that a 20 month old shouldn't be watching any TV, please do not bother! My son rarely watches any TV, but we have a 8+ hour car ride coming up and I want to have something fun for him to watch. The only show he watches now is Yo Gabba Gabba, but he is absolutely obsessed with cars (both real and toy) and I was wondering if a child so young would like this movie at all. I have not seen it, and also want to make sure there's nothing inappropriate or disturbing for my little guy. Has anyone out there with toddlers shown them this movie? If so, did they like it? Do you have any other suggestions for car-themed kids shows or movies? Thanks a lot!

  1. Rent it,

    If he likes it,

    BUY IT

  2. My daughter LOVES that movie as does many of her friends so I do believe that your son would enjoy it as well.  There is a section where they go 'tractor tipping' and it's a bit scary.  Maybe you can just zip through that part so he doesn't have to watch it.  My daughter will hide when that part comes on if I don't fast forward through it.

Other suggestions would be anything from The Little Einsteins.  They are full of music and dancing along with Annie, Quincy, Leo and June.  who most kids really love.

  3. my son is 2.5, and i don't think i've seen anything else on my tv in a year.

    CARS!

  4. Yes! He will love it! My sons love cars and trucks and I just showed them this movie for this first time and now they keep asking to watch it. They are 4 and 2. There is nothing disturbing. It is just a sweet little movie and does not seem to have any of that "adult humor" mixed in like other pixar movies.

  5. that is a great movie for kids. my neice is 15 months and she loves it, the older ones did too.

as for car themed i cant help you there.

tip: dont let him watch it til the ride. he will be more interested.

    good luck on your trip!!!

  6. Great movie for kids and adults. My son is 4 and loves cars and the movie Cars. There is nothing to worry about in the movie. Our family loves all Pixar movies.

  7. I'm sure that would be fine! Can't say I've seen the movie myself... my daughter is only 10 months. I'm in a parenting community though, and that movie seems to be a big hit with a lot of toddlers.

  8. He will love the movie! I have 2 nephews that love the movie one of them was only 12 months when he watched it the first time and he loved it. Just get ready for him to want everything Cars when he sees it in the store. Speed Racer is pretty good too. And any of the Nick Jr. movies you can get Nick jr 1-2-3-4-5 I'm not sure if they came out with a number 6 yet but they are all nick jr shows you can look on they back they all have different themes and last 3-4 hours you can get them at walmart for really cheap. My nephews both love those too and it always keeps them busy in the car. Have you tried the baby Einstein movies? They have some about trains planes an cars. If I can think of any other ones I will let you know! Good luck!

  9. Cars is a great movie! We bought this for my son at about 2 years old and he absolutely loves it, his older sister too. He can't stop talking about Lightning McQueen and Mater. Don't be too concerned with the fast paced action, the movie is very scenic (route66/Arizona desert) and has a good soundtrack.

For road trips I also found the Baby Einstein DVDs to be useful. They are great for 1-3 year olds as they are colorful and keep them pretty amused. There is one that is car/train themed that my son loves.

  10. My 18 mth old son is obsessed with cars also. He watches Cars with his sister, and loves it. I think it is appropriate for wee ones. He also loves the original Lovebug movie. The movie is pretty much just cars driving around. The old one is appropriate. I don't know about the Lindsay Lohan one though. Those are the only ones I can think of.

Mighty machines is pretty cool, I don't know if it'd be available on dvd. On TLC first thing in the morning is a cartoon about monster trucks (they go to school). That one is really cute. We don't see it often, but he loves that one... he just freezes in place until it is over. He does that with Thomas, too.

Contrary to how it sounds, the tv is rarely on. lol

  11. I love that Movie!  We took our boys to see it (at the time, they were 6 and 4 I think).  They loved it.  I'm sure he would love it.  I don't think there's anything inappropriate in it - if there is, my kids didn't catch it.

What about some Dora or Diego DVD's or Higglytown Heros?  My 20 month old daughter loves SpongeBob.

    Hope this helps!

  12. he would like it.

    nothing inappropriate

  13. Yes, Yes, Yes,

My three year old loved that movie at that age(still does)

some others that are good for that age:

    Little Einsteins

    Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

    Meet the Robinson's

    Finding Nemo

If you can find them, Disney makes DVDs with Fast Play, they are great. All you have to do is put the dvd in the player and it automatically start and will continue to repeat until you turn it off. This is great for that age since they love to watch things over and over again, and you don't have to worry about reaching into the back seat all the time, especially if you are driving by yourself.

Yo Gabba Gabba is becoming more popular you may be able to find a dvd.

  14. yes he would

  15. yeah I think it would be great for him, its a awesome movie.

  16. Yes for a long car ride, I would say cars would be great.  I was one of those people getting ready to slam you for letting a 20M old watch an entire movie, but in the car, I say go for it.  I would watch it first because you know best if there is anything inappropriate for your child, I don't think there is but if for some reason he is scared to death of tractors, well there is a tractor part. (you see what I am saying)  There are some parts my son doesn't like because there is conflict, but other then that I love the movie.  He just had a Car's birthday party on Sat.  Only reason why not to watch it, is all my kid talks about is Lightning McQueen, all day all the time :P.  (Main Character)   Good luck!!
