When I did my student teaching, I worked with an assistant who freely used the "N" word to describe students!!  There are also still teachers/assistants who would rather just let a student with special needs play in centers instead of working with them MORE to ensure their success.  Discrimination against minorities and different cultures is still a problem in my area.  While I don't think I would personally benefit from diversity training (I consider myself a pretty normal, respectful, and intelligent person), I KNOW people would benefit from it in my area.
