Question:

Do you think a second grader would prefer a wacky pen w/a cool top or glow stick as a special treat?

Ok, for those of you who read my first post, I was trying to figure out what to get my second grade class for their outstanding behavior yesterday.

Today, I'm trying to decide if I should give them glow sticks or wacky pens. Since we're having Fun Friday tommorow, I couldn't decide if I should hold off on the glow sticks and let them play with them when we watch our movie.

Opinions?

PS: I know this seems pretty basic, but I'm a very young teacher with no children of my own. I'm still learning what kids do and don't like.

  1. I would say glow sticks because pens they could write on the walls or one themselves but don't give the glow sticks outt during the movie the kids will pay more attention to the glow sticks than the movie

  2. glow sticks...i would of loved them.

  3. You can't lose with either one but as a girl I still remember my own grade school teachers giving out a special pen or pencil. It may just be a girl thing because I am sure my seven year old son would pick the glow stick. If you are planning a lights out movie in the future that would be great fun to give them glow sticks then. Hopefully they behave well enough to earn a treat again. The thing with the pen is it still relates to school work and the glow stick not so much.

  4. Pens- Definatly!!! When I was in grade school (i'm 21 now) I LOVED when teachers gave us stuff like that. A glow stick will fade and you will have to toss it- Those pens are awesome and kids will love them!

  5. My daughter is 7 and loves glow sticks.

  6. Second graders have tons of writing instruments go with the glow sticks. Or glow bracelets? They all love those! My kids are 7 and 8 and think those things are a blast.  Fun teacher!

  7. Go with the pens. Not only with the glow sticks fade, but the chemicals in them can be dangerous if they get broken open by accident.

Good for you for taking such an interest in your 'kids'!

  8. Go with the pens.  I know my daughter (7 and in 2nd grade) would love them.  The glow sticks fade, while the pens will last until they loose them :)

    Good luck

  9. My second grader would like both of those.

The glow sticks will be hard to enjoy during the daytime, though (and hard to be patient & hold onto until nighttime).  But, giving them the glowsticks right before lights-out for a movie would solve that problem, too.
