you rapidly dehydrate a snail when you salt it, so i would say yes.

it's all osmosis- there is more free-water per weight in the snail than there is in the salt, creating an osmotic pressure difference.

the water quickly leaves to snail to balance this out.  This will happen with frogs too.  Anything that always has a slimy wetness

i'm sure they are...they die afterwards too...it must have been a very painful death....just like dracula dying under the sun :)
