  1. I would say the specific event which is the turning point of the piece is the death of Mercutio (the nearest thing to a clown or fool in the piece). Audiences in Elizabethan times wouldn't have necessarily known it was a tragedy when going to the theatre to see it. Throughout most of the first half they would've have been thinking it was a comedy, until the death of Mercutio which suddenly turns the play on it's head. From then on, there is a huge shift in tone and mood of the piece
