Do you think affirmative action puts down minorities?

it is like saying "your not good enough to get the job on your own merits, so we will give it to you even though you may not be most qualified"

Affirmative action is supposed to be used to promote a diverse working/learning community.  There have been plenty of jobs where I have been the "token" in other jobs before and have found out first hand that many people really wont choose a minority because of a stereotype of being lazy or not working hard. Thankfully not all people feel like this, but insuring theres some diversity I believe might have someone impact on the way people feel about them.  I don't believe in getting special treatment or a leg up on the competition, but there are plenty of minorities (not just in race, but people with handicaps) who are unfairly treated and not hired strictly on race.  Affirmative action has helped with the push back off all Americans, and I believe in helping everyone out.

It was used to help the minorities get a leg up and even the playing field when it was instituted.  But that was over 30 years ago.  The playing field has shifted to the advantage of the minorities.  I am currently in college.  I have a B+ average and do you think I get scholarships......NO.  Yet I see others in my field, who are minorities, with C averages getting scholarships left and right.  It makes me down right pissed to see people treated like this.

I say we should repeal affirmative action on certain levels and make the field even again.

interesting way to think about it. I guess if someone wanted to help me get a better paying job, I would let them put down the merits I have, just so long as I could get the money and run.

My answer is if your willing to work and try your best to your ability, then you have succeded. People that put forth the effort is what makes this country a great country. My definition of affirmative action is to take the thieves, and cut their fingers off. All the rapists, go directly to the emergency room and cut their nuts out. All drug dealers will get an overdose of the drug that their selling. All child molesters will automatically receive the death penalty. And so on. Vote for Larry Gibbons for President. Thank You.

No I do not, believe this to be true. It provides equality where inequality was once rampid. People recieve jobs they aren't qualified for all the time no matter if their black, white, green, or yellow. Affirmative action shouldn't be the the dark cloud drenching minorities pride hating on theirselves is.
