Do you think alternitive fuled vehicles are more enviornment friendly?

This may seem like a dumb question cause I know alot of people know the awnser but since corn is being used in Alternative Fueled Vehicles then wouldnt that be more enviorment friendly

Yes, they are.  When you use ethanol you are simply recycling carbon.  When you use gasoline you are adding new carbon to the air which was previously trapped beneath the earth's surface.  This is the primary reason ethanol is much more environmentally friendly than gasoline.  The corn grows, is harvested, and is fermented into ethanol.  When the ethanol is burned CO2 is given off which is then used again by another corn plant to make corn starch which is fermented and the cycle is repeated.  And don't listen to the c**p that it takes fossil fuels to make ethanol.  It takes even more fossil fuels to drill oil out of the ground, ship it on a huge tanker around the world to the US, and then refine the crude oil into usable gasoline.  Refineries need lots of heat energy and use lots of electricity.  And you can't tell me any fossil fuels are consumed when corn is fermented via electricity produced from wind farms.  If you wanna go green, by all means, buying a flex fuel vehicle and using E85 is the most practical and readily available way to do it.

I think that electric veichals are equally as bad for the enviroment, as you need powerstations to get the energy for. I do belive that some are good though, such as hydrogen, but then we are using up the natural resources from the earth, no matter what we do, we go round in circles- well, it feels likeit

Corn alcohol was never a good idea for a fuel. But you can also use other plants, such as Switchgrass, which would make it EXTREMELY enviro-friendly. And with only one acre of land, you can fuel your car with 1200 gallons per year!

I guess corn is more environment friendly... I guess it doesn't cause polution... but did you see on the news where a guy was looking for a cure to cancer and he discovered that a motor can run off of salt water?!  Driving a car that fuels on salt water would be great!  It would be cheap and environment friendly.

The real power comes from the b urning of Corbin. The  E85 will not produce as much energy as gasoline.

Not necessarily.

In the case of ethanol its necessary to convert more acreage of forest or natural grasslands to farmland in order to grow the corn, sugar cane or whatever cropis necessary,  Then there is the distilling process which requires heat energy that has to be taken from electricity or liquid fuel sources.  At the end of the day its a close call as to whether its worthwhile considering the energy expended versus energy extracted.  The best estimate I've seen is a 130 % return.

Then there is biodiesel.  Its obtained from sources that extract carbon from the air but when it burns it creates particulate soot just like regular diesel fuel  Maybe carbon soot doesn't matter anymore now that Global Warming is the big environmental rage.

Definitely!! I have had my Ford Escape Hybrid for 2 years and love it. I have had NO problems. Along with getting great gas mileage for a SUV (runs off the high voltage battery and electric motor frequently) I feel like I am contributing to a more friendly environment!
