Do you think at some point novels will be written with emoticons?

there is a book called TTYL that already does that. The entire story is told in online chat.

Some books are already written like that, but it's only books like TTYL and others that are written like an IM conversation.

I suppose at some point an author will use emoticons. I think it'd be alright if the protagonist was wrtiing a blog or a journal.

I think that there definately will be, but they'll be the super trashy teen books (Gossip Girl, The Clique, etc.) and they'll be disgraces to literature.  There will still be plenty of actual books with actual plots using actual words.
