It may seem crazy, but I thought I heard this before. I didn't ever give it a thought until I see my baby doing something that I do at only 3 weeks old. I play with my ear like someone may twirl their hair, or bite their nails. My mom said I did this from birth. Now I do it when I'm thinking, stressed, hungry or tired. Well, my 3 week old sleeps with at least one hand on her ear. Sometimes she is grabbing both with both hands. Do baby's pick up mannerisms genetically?

  1. yes, they can! my little girl sucks her thumb and holds her ear when she is sleepy and i did the exact same thing at her age, plus, on her fathers side, both he and his sister have a habit of twirling their hair and she does that also without even knowing she is doing it! its amazing!

  2. Well yes/ and /no.. 1st id rule out a ear problem...  you might have had one as a baby that you mom was unaware of that your baby inhearted...  so id get a DR to actualy rule out a issue... (water on the ear, infection, wax...ect)  if all comes back neg... id say you could say shes just like you...

if it comes back Pos.. id say you problly had the say issue as a kid and your mom just never asked a DR

  3. I never thought about it before. I think they can both be learned and inherited now that I think about it.

  4. I very well could be wrong but my guess would be that it's learned, not genetic.  (May be some genetic link but definitely not genetics alone.)

  5. i cant say if its genetics alone, but i think genetics play a very vital role.

i have a brother from my dad's first marriage, who unfortunately did not grow up with our dad, but he is exactly like him! from the way he stand, to the way he talks, its crazy!
