  1. yes good thing but you get less paid

thats why teachers have the NUT strike

  2. It depends on where you want to teach!

I have been teaching in China for 2.5years.  The job itself is quite rewarding and depending on where you work the pay can be good!

BUT a warning for those thinking of coming to China to teach English ... you have to be careful where you teach.

Try to find public schools or state owned schools ... you have more protection!  If you go to a private school they can do pretty much anything they like and make up crazy contract rules!

You will find it is very different here, it's about the money!  You must be a good monkey!!  They say jump you are expected to jump!

Just read your contract carefully and i mean several times!  Don't be pushed into anything, stand up for yourself! Also ask as many questions about the job as you want and if you want to change the contract TRY!  Negotiations are good here and most of the time they will give you a little bit extra!

    Good luck!

  3. It is useful if you want to travel and work in abroad.  But useful in the UK to and all you need is a TEFL certificate to get started.  Opportunities for development and growth are enormous.

  4. It sounds good if you have a explanation ability to the children and have patience...It is difficult to explain something you know to new learners.Even you know it too much about something, it does not prove that you will be very good teacher.

    Good luck.

  5. Yes - its a good idea.

Wages depends on where you teach and what you teach - for example if you are able to get in with employers you may be able to get contracts teaching business english. This can pay much more in certain countries. Also private English lessons will pay more than working for an institution.

How much you earn may also depend on the qualification you hold. Get yourself a Diploma in TESOL/TEFl under your belt, and some certified teaching practice.

I did both a Diploma in TESOL, and Diploma in teaching business english with London Teacher Training College, who have quite an array of courses on offfer. You can also get discount on their courses by registering at Access 2 English -definately worth a look.

  6. if you will enjoy it, why not. The best job is one you wake up looking forward to do

  7. This is a position that is more for experience than pay.  I have a couple of friends who have done this and enjoyed it immensely.  The pay rate depends on the country, of course.  But if you're adventurous I say GO for it!

  8. Look up TEFAL (teaching English as a Foreign Language) on the net - this is a qualification recognised throughout the world.  There are courses in the uk and in the states  or you can take one on-line.  The sites will tell you all about it, plus give you info on where teachers are needed and help you to apply for jobs plus rates of pay.  There are also contacts so that you can talk to others who have done, or do  this work

  9. go for it if it is what you want!
