Do you think the likes of floyd mayweather could beat george st.pierre

Or Nate campell beat sherk or penn

They would be good bouts what about these.

klisthose v tim slyvia both gaints i think klisthose would win.

kelly pavlik v anderson silva If anderson dosen't get cauht he would win with his ground skills and high kicks.

Joe calzaghe v rampage i'd say calzaghe.

Going back to the earlier 1s george st pierre i think would summit mayweather

and sherk or penn i think could beat campell

Whats your opinon?Who's better boxing or mma's?

  1. I think the biggest difference is that boxers have one of the 3 skills primarily used in MMA - striking (punching).  Moreover, they are better at it than MMA guys - a lot of successful MMA fighters rely heavily on standing up and throwing punches; the only skill a good boxer would have to develop is avoiding takedowns (sprawling).  This isn't easy to learn of course, and there would have to be an adjustment to their boxing technique, but an MMA guy would have to start from scratch learning how to box to be able to compete with a real boxer.

A pretty clear illustration of this was when Dana White challenged Floyd Mayweather to fight Sherk, its a mismatch under MMA rules, but Nevada would probably saction it based on Floyd's chance at using his speed and punching power and skill to KO Sherk before be victimized by his lack of experience wrestling, etc.  BUT Dana White said 'no way' to Silva stepping into the rind with Roy Jones, and Nevada would never saction a bout between a world class boxer and a guy with 2 pro fights - Silva's (or any MMA fighters) chance in the ring with a top boxer is about as good as a regular person stepping into the ring - its one skill, and the separation between those with expertise and someone who just knows how to punch is far more dangerous than having your arm twisted for 2 seconds.

How about this, who would you feel safer in betting your house on - Mike Tyson (circa 1987) vs. Tim Sylvia (former UFC champ) in an MMA match or Tim Sylvia vs. Mike Tyson in a boxing match???

  2. I consider pugilism a martial art in itself.  Therefore since the MMA guy is training not only in boxing but in many other forms of martial arts such as wrestling, jui jitsu, kickboxing etc.  then I would have to think they would have an advantage in a real fight because they are better prepared for different situations.

  3. I think that mma could beat a boxer.  St.peirre could just throw a high kick and usually boxers dont train to dodge that and arent ready for it.

  4. Ill answer that first question there is no way mayweather could take georges in a mma match he would get killed its absolutely out of the question a boxer has only his fist while mma fighters have their legs and there fist as well as grappling and submission

  5. no way a boxer would win in a real fight. a boxer uses his hands to fight while a mma fighter could use his legs to do more damage while still having the precision as a punch.  mma is way better because after a fight you know who the winner is(serra vs st pierre last saturday) pierre won by TKO in a title fight. an in boxing both boxers raise their hands after the fight and one of them complains about losing(hopkins vs calzaghe last saturday) split decision win by calzaghe

  6. You've heard it before, props to kpose0587, and I've said it before and I'll say it again it's like apples and oranges. Who would win in 150 meter sprint, 100 meter sprinter vs. 200 meter sprinter?Different tactics, preparation and just overall different disciplines.I love boxing and I also watch mma but the mma fighter has an advantage of studying a wider range of self defense than does a boxer.

I think St.Pierre,Sherk,Penn win by tap out.Silvia loses by ko, cause he tries to trade punches.Silva wins by tap out.Rampage wins via power bomb.

In the end boxers win in boxing, mma fighters in mma fighting.

  7. First of all, floyd mayweather isnt that great, all he does is stall all the time

Anyway, no, maybe a boxer could win from their feet, but an MMA fighter would know that, take them down, and then the boxer would be defenseless

  8. a boxer could not beat a MMA fighter in the octagon...

and a MMA fighter would get their *** beat in a boxing match against a "good" pro boxer...

    its apples and oranges

  9. obviously MMA fighters would win because they know and are pro in mixed martial arts, its 'mixed' and it at the twisting of the arm for 2 seconds that make the impact, its getting kicked in the head multiple times and gettin a good dozen knee combo in the jaw, an arm twist? no lets talk about guillotine, foot hook arm bars choke hold of which is many, throw floyd in there with gsp who is a freak in the welter weight division sherk is a lightweight. if u notice people in MMA who specialise in striking, and KO punches, there opponent will counter that and just take them down for some ground and pound and have a technical fight on the mat, the boxer will be so used to standing up and its a nightmare for them to ever hit the floor, these MMA stars would take them down and break there arms or legs,or jaw,or neck or any other bone, lets be realistic here...

  10. No. MMAs train in many different styles and can throw punches as hard as boxers. However, if it was a boxer vs. mma in a straight up boxing match, maybe. But for the most part, mmas would destroy boxers.

  11. Boxing and MMA aren't alike at all.  The winner of the fights would never be one or the other, the winner would be decided totally by who the better fighter is.  Not all boxers would win and not all MMA fighters would win.  Trust be I do both and have fought people using many diffrent styles, truth is alot of them are smoke and mirrors.

  12. Fighting at the same weight class of course and in a boxing ring, the boxers win because of their obvious better technical boxing skills and techniques.  In MMA those fighters have the advantage as they go to the mat and can use submission moves.  I prefer boxing myself but will watch a MMA fight once in a while on television.

  13. Oh sure

  14. They say the best defense is a good offense. To be able to defend yourself from someone who is kicking or grabbing you,  just have a good offense. You don't need to kick to knock people out. It is much easier to knock people out with a punch than a kick. Kicks requires more energy and tends to get you off balance. However, almost all fights end up on the floor . That's the boxer's disadvantage.
