Everytime i turn around, some driver is being penalized for a rule infraction. Do you think it would be fair for them to be "banned" from competing in chase if they cheat during the year? Think about it, if they did this in nascar, jimmie johnson wouldn't have won it in the last two years.

I dont think Nascar should do this, cuz then there would be no one in the chase for the cup.

  1. No, just fined!

  2. Not unless the cheating was so severe they have no other penalty to suit it.

  3. no.  those who violate the rules should be penalized, as they are.  trying to determine who is "cheating" necessitates determining intent.  there are just too many grey areas (fewer and fewer, but there will always be some) to make such a call.

i believe nascar is not only serious about not mucking with the new car's body, but also about drivers/teams being put on probation - which in the past meant little to nothing.

even in cases where "cheating" is highly suspected, should the driver, the rest of the crew, the sponsors, the owners (not to mention the fans) be penalized so harshly for something that maybe only one or two people knew about? maybe yes, maybe no. i think the mechanisms (points loss, fines, suspensions, parking the car) and their ramifications (fan loss, sponsor troubles, etc.) handle problems fairly well.

    that's my $0.04.

ps. frankie, and what about dw's magically exploding engine? wasn't it at an all-star race? dw won the race, and not half a lap after finishing, his engine blew up. i love listening to his stories on how they were "rule makers" not "rule breakers."

  4. No.  And cheater is not the way to phrase it.  In football people have penalties called all the time and are not kicked out the game.  In basketball people get fouls and are not kicked out.  But they are not "cheaters". They are simply rules infractions.  You pay the penalty and move on.  In Nascar if teams are found to have a rules violation, they get penalized, and move on to the next race.

  5. you are so lost in the racing world , you should go to another category that you know something about

  6. cheating & having violations if different ...

cheating should be HEAVLY FINED & lose the chance to be in 1 race on the first offence but BANNED from the chase would be a GREAT idea if they did it more than once in a year.

I mean really, if they are caught twice, how may times did tehy pay it off or just get away with it?!?!?

  7. Cheater sounds so third grade.  I think some of the infractions are blatant, and some are just mistakes.  As long as you are dealing with humans, you're going to find mistakes.  I think the penalties have been very fair, and no one is excluded from the ever watchful eye of nascar.

  8. Maybe have a mega pt penalty...not banning.

  9. no

  10. No. Nascar has a big room where they put all of the illegal confiscated parts.

You weren't around for D.W.'s "sneaky pete" Nitrous system were you?

Nascar found a hidden N.O.S. system on his car but couldn't find the nitrous bottle and threatened to impound his car during race time and tear it apart to find the NOS bottle.

D.W. gave in and unzipped his driving suit and pulled out the little 'Sneaky Pete' NOS bottle! (It's about the size of a 12oz beer bottle and only good for one lap at the most!)

  11. This sport was founded on the philosophy of bending the rules, or "working the gray area". Most of the time when a team is caught "cheating", they aren't breaking a written rule, but writing a future rule.

Read some Nascar history, the 48 team didn't start that trend. It's been here all along, and every team has worked around the edge of the rules to gain a competitive advantage at some point. Some are just better at it.

  12. My feelings are that if you are caught cheating, whatever you placed in that particular race, you should go to the end of the winners list, forfeit all points for that day and crew chiefs should be banned from racing for one year. When Edwards was caught and placed first was a fine example and he should have been placed last.

  13. Only from the particular race they cheat on. Sometimes there is a fine line and NASCAR has reversed some of their rulings in the past. So No. Banning from the chase would leave only a few teams competing in the chase.

  14. When someone in the NFL takes a cheap shot (hit from behind, etc) there is a FOUL, and a penalty.

It is that way in every sport. Why should NASCAR be any different? If a driver (see Darrell story above) KNOWINGLY commits a rule infraction. Then yes, there should be a penalty but not a ban on them.

Fines, suspensions and point reductions have kept them pretty much in line for 50 + years.

  15. i have mixed feelings about this because of the inconsistent way that penalties are handed out. even when nascar is wrong some people still get the penalties. i even remember when junior johnsons team with geoff bodine driving was penalized heavily in a non points race for an engine infraction. i believe it may have been the harshest penalty i can remember. if there was more consistancy in enforcement, i might agree with it.

  16. they should follow the rules, then they wouldnt have to be banned.
