  6. I have given this some serious thought and have decided for myself that Chess, although clearly an intellectual pursuit, does not really fall into the category of a sport. In my mind, a sport is some kind of contest against others or oneself in which physical prowess gives one an advantage along with the skill level developed by the individual or team. Wikipedia however, does not necessarily agree with me, as they include in their definition of Sport a broader definition that includes contests of the mind. So, I am now supposing that if one defines Chess as a sport, that other games such as Poker would then need to be included in the Sport category. Taking it further, how many pursuits that involve table games and games of chance would then be considered a sport?

  7. Chess is a board game.  Usually for sports, the athlete must work out to stay in shape in order to improve his performance.  With chess as well as other board games, the player's athletic ability doesn't matter.
