If everyone in the the US lived in a place as energy efficient as NYC, how much of an improvement would that make towards the enviornment?

Mass transit use in New York City is the highest in United States and gasoline consumption in the city is at the rate the national average was in the 1920s.[37] New York City's dense population and low automobile dependence help make New York among the most energy efficient in the United States.[38] The city's greenhouse gas emission levels are relatively low when measured per capita, at 7.1 metric tons per person, below the national average, 24.5.[39] New Yorkers are collectively responsible for one percent of the nation's total greenhouse gas emissions[39] though comprising 2.7% of the nation's population. The average New Yorker consumes less than half the electricity used by a resident of San Francisco and nearly one-quarter the electricity consumed by a resident of Dallas.[40]

  1. Yes, less power consumption will definitely benefit the environment, no question about that.

  2. no, its effect would be too small. even if all of the usa stopped using elcticity, that wouldnt stop global warming, it would help make its effects less severe, but it wouldnt stop it.

  3. Given the question the answer is yes. Public transportation is better when the masses use this system instead of the single car driver. Also the availability of commerce and of the staples means less travel. So from a purely reduction of fossil fuel use it is better, theoretically.

Practically we would not like living like rats in a cage.

  4. Public transportation will help the environment by reducing smog and other airborne pollution but not global warming as we now have global cooling. The Sun determines climate change.

  5. The sustainable emissions per capita are 2-3 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.

    compare and contrast.

You're doing better than people where I live.

If the electricity was renewably sourced and cars were not using fossil fuels, it would be ok.

  6. I  don't  think  that  this  question  should  even  be  posted  on  a  site  that is  suppose  to  do  with  Mining  in  NS.

Right now  i have  no concerns  about  mass  transit  in  New  York  or any  part  of  the  USA.

What  is happening  in  the  states  is  one  of  the  biggest reasons  we  in  NS    are  going  to  be  attacked  for  our  natural  resources...

Can  we  please  stick  with  the  subject????

  7. no definitely not how could it?

  8. Public tpt reduce the car mileage, that emit carbon dioxide (contributes to global warming). Using rail tpt, like bullet trains thats uses electricity, consumes less fuel.
