The christians church and Muslims mosque have political control over their people but Hindus are struggling to even keep their identity under the onslaught through media and politics even in a country like India where they are in a majority. The temples only do rituals and serve private faith. They exercise no control over the peoples minds politically.

  1. It is not like that. You will find problems in all the religions. Same vested interests work every where. The way break castes in hindus, they break siyas and sunnies in muslims, hinyan and mahayan in budhists, swetamber and digamber in jains, protestants and others in chistians etc etc. This is all groupism, a subject of group behaviours or group dynamism. Every person tries to identify himself with a smallest possible group, but to be a part of a bigger group against others. This dualism creates sub-groups. For example, if you go to America or for that matter in any other foreign country, you will find a group of Asians, then among them there will be sub group of south asians, then Indians, then North or South Indians, then Punjabies or Gujraties etc etc. Minorities always get united in group dynamism because they have to protect themselves from the exploitation from majorities or others. However majorities do not feel that urge. Since hindues in India are majority in number they tend more devided in castes, sub-castes, gotras etc etc. Hinduism or for that matter any -ism will keep on surviving, because whosoever becomes in minority will unite and struggle for existence.

  2. I think that's a good thing.  When religious institutions strive to "exercise control over the peoples minds politically" (as you say), you get theocracies.  Look at the theocracies of the world:  most of the countries in the middle east (Turkey being a good example of what you can get when you secularize) - they have stagnated politically and economically.

  3. On the long run, no religion that strives to keep its followers under political control will survive. We will rise above this as humans.

Only reason can solve it. Less uncritical reverence of 'holy' texts and more critical thinking. A better understanding of science.

  4. I agree with you They need a platform

Only VHP can provide the Platform
