Do you think employers will have a harder time finding employees as the price of gas skyrockets?

Just in my case, my job search range has been reduced drastically. I just talked to a UPS recruiter and he said the part time jobs at UPS are 40 minutes away from here. It wouldn't even be worth the gas. There aren't many buses here in the Chicago suburbs either. And taking the train everyday all the way to Chicago isn't worth it unless you're making big bucks.

  1. I think that will definitely have effects on many things employment wise. For instance, delivery jobs?? Who want to deliver a pizza with their own car and only get $1?? In my business, I can't raise the price to my clients because of contracted rates. Yet, my workers have to drive their own car to work every day. I pay more than minimum wage for common labor, yet many of them end up paying half of that in gas for the week.

I, myself, can't afford to go looking for more business because of the gas prices and everyone else trying to get the cheapest rate available.

Eventually, wages will have to increase along with everything else or no one will be able to afford working.

  2. In many cases...yes.  I think it will definitely be the case for lower paying jobs that are far from neighborhoods, public trans, etc....
