Do you think fighters really need to be all Musculed up?

Some of the best fighters/ Martial artists weren't even that big. They were actually skinny with amazing muscle tone. So why does everyone think UFC fighters are the best fighters just because they are all big? Muy Thai fighters are skinny as h**l yet they are BEASTS. UFC fighters are good Entertainers in my opinion. Their build makes them really tired really fast. I'll stick to my Skinny/Muscular build.

  1. i agree i am working to have  muscles like bruce lee  as  alot of my martial arts  is striking

i hate it when people say "or he will win"  you ask them why and your answer is " because hes bigger and got more muscle "  when in fact some small muscle builds would beast these big heavy men in  a bout

  2. wwe only rey isnt on steraroids but ufc they have to

  3. Though it is true that muscle isn't everything, realistically, they wouldn't have weight classes in fights if size wasn't a factor.  There would be only one weight class in Muay Thai, UFC, Boxing, Wrestling, Kickboxing, etc.  Skill and speed are truly important as well.  People like to give it the thumbs down, but everyone knows it's true that a well-trained, physically fit big man can beat an equally well-trained physically fit smaller man.

  4. They do a lot grappling in the UFC opposed to a striking martial art where you are relying more on quickness and stamina.  You need that raw strength just to match up with those guys who are trying to take you down and pound you out.  MMA has really evolved into something where you have to be good at everything or you are going to see yourself losing to certain types of fighters.

  5. Well it doesn't generally apply to muscle but more skill no matter what build. But the muscular guys can sometimes over power the small guy if they both know what there doing like Brock Lesnar was doing to Frank Mir except Mir had more skill and experience but if Lesnar was well skilled he would have destroyed Mir. Or Cain Velasquez destroyed his last opponent but skills usually play out like Royce Gracie or Lyoto Machida. Hey you look good with muscle too and fighters train for muscular endurance not strength so they are more flexible and quick and provide more harder hits. Its always good to train with weights anyway no matter what build. It depends on cardio not how much muscle someone has as to why they get gassed quickly.

  6. You're absolutely correct.  There is some basic myofibrillar muscular development that needs to take place to create functional strength, but that sarcoplasmic muscular development that comes from doing body building exercise after body building exercise to force nutrients into muscles just makes people lumpy and only yields a marginal amount of functional strength.  The UFC is pretty good about monitoring their weight divisions, but as you said - it's entertainment.  It's a sport in it's own right and most of its athletes are very buff.

As far as getting tired fast, I agree with you on that count as well.  A big bruiser might be able to win a bar fight in quick match time.  However, in real battle where a warrior might have just had to hump 40 miles without sleep in four days, food in three days, and barring injuries - give me a lean little 150-180lb Navy Seal.  The bruiser would've never made it that far, but if he did, he'd be too whooped to give the Seal (who is still going strong) much of a fight at all.

  7. no being buff has nothing to do with fighting. some guys are just like that. personally toned or ripped is good enough. but ya skinny fighters like royce gracie demolished those big meat headed american fighters in the old ufc days.
