Do you think global warming is a genuine threat or a hoax?

I've heard and seen a lot of evidence that global warming is not a hoax, and yet there is also a lot of evidence and argument against its authenticity. What do you think? Name sources if possible.

  1. There is probably "some" global warming going on.  It is "not" caused by humans.  It is caused by solar cycles that we have no control over.  We are along for the ride.  It is a "hoax" that we can stop it.  We can survive it.

  2. (1) Well, the climate seems to be warming up, but it's done that before.

    (2) We're getting more carbon dioxide in the air, and millions of years ago the earth was lots warmer, and there was lots of carbon dioxide in the air then, too.

    (3) Some of that extra carbon dioxide is coming from the coal and oil we burn.

And that's about all we know.  Whether the extra carbon dioxide we're putting in the air is causing the climate to warm up, we don't know.  We also don't know whether there's anything we can do to reverse this.  We also don't know whether the climate will reverse itself on its own; there have been warming trends before.

It's important to remember that research is only just beginning on all of these topics, and theories that seemed impervious can suddenly turn out to be perfectly false.

Anyone who says that they have all the answers is simply trying to gain political power.  On the other hand, basic tidyness dictates that we shouldn't mess up the air any more than we have to.

  3. By the weather we have had this year - there is definately something to the global warming theory. We have had windstorms, snowstorms, flooding, and unusually warm spring = more flooding. That's my source.

  4. Global warming is real and mostly caused by us.  Three reasons, with solid support, most important first.

There's an overwhelming amount of peer reviewed scientific data that says that.  Short and long summaries.

Science is quite good about exposing bad science or hoaxes:

There's a large number of people who agree that it is, who are not liberals, environmentalists, stupid, or conceivably part of a "conspiracy".  Just three examples of many:

"Global warming is real, now, and it must be addressed."

    Lee Scott, CEO, Wal-Mart

"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."

    Senator John McCain, Republican, Arizona

“DuPont believes that action is warranted, not further debate."

Charles O. Holliday, Jr., CEO, DuPont

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

  5. global warming is a genuine threat and humans are one of main contributors of this. Eg. Cars, Industries

  6. I have never heard any credible evidence that it is a hoax. The only thing I have heard is some guy on fox news saying "Some people say it is a hoax," then not giving proof to back it up. It is happening. Human beings are affecting the earth's weather through pollution. I do not know how badly, but I do agree that we can live through it and that by being responsible consumers we can minimize it's effects.

  7. Not a hoax.

It's part natural and part caused by human activity.

The more gas we burn, the more fast it's warming.
