  1. of course it's subjective. i can perceive that the curry is good b'cos i like spicy but it turns to not good to someone that can't take spicy food.it differs b'cos different culture, climate&likeness.

  2. The Greeks measured the exact proportion facial features must be to be the most attractive. This is mostly true for many white people.

Taste, I would claim, is a cultural thing first, a personal thing second. So it is subjective, but only to an extent.

  3. It is indeed subjective. What you consider good taste may not be considered good taste to the next man.

  4. Good taste is reflective rather than subjective.

  5. yumm... i like muffins

  6. Subjective ..... that may be so ....... What about just as arbitrary as your own perceptions? ....

  7. what you like is subjective but if it's real good everyone can see it.

  8. IT depends on what we mean by the terms 'good' and 'taste':

Two cases for Taste- (cultures don't matter here - assume any culture C that Joe is a member of):

    1. Joe likes the painting 'Starry Night', so Joe has 'good' 'taste'.

    2. Joes doesn't like the painting 'Starry Night', so Joe doesn't have 'good' 'taste'.

IF by the term 'good' we mean 'what culture-C finds acceptable', then (1) reads: ' Joe likes the painting 'Starry Night', so Joe has what culture-C finds acceptable to have taste in'.

IF by 'taste' we mean 'what culture-C finds pleasing', (1) reads: 'Joe likes the painting 'Starry Night', so Joe has what culture-C finds acceptable to find what culture-C finds pleasing'.

In any case, we can't evaluate both terms 'good' and 'taste' in relation to culture, as our sentence begins to loose coherence, and it becomes obviously redundant.

    _____

IF by 'good' we mean 'what the experiencer finds pleasurable' then we get: '' Joe likes the painting 'Starry Night', so has pleasurable experience taste.

.....Any way, this could go one indefinitely, so I'm going to stop and give my suggestion....

The term 'good' is a property of objects, just like 'width' is a property of the object 'house' - it's an ordinary property like anything else, which is not soley dependent on a person thinking anything to be good. Taste is ones faculty for grasping that the object, or event, or person, or what-not, has the relevant property, in our case, 'good'.

So, to have good-taste, is just for one to have the ability to grasp that the object (say a painting) has the property 'goodness'. What is this the substance of this property 'goodness', I don't know! Ask a metaphysician or aesthetician, but I think my account above is the proper treatment of the semantics (meanings) of the terms.

  9. its not what you wear its how you wear it. being confident can work wonders no matter what you wear. I do think certain design rules should be followed. It has to look carefully put together, not too much clashing. And make sure it fits  mother wise it just looks too

sloppy. Other than that be comfortable. wear what you like

  10. It is subjective by and large. However, the environment plays a substantial role in nurturing and cultivating the taste. You are a babe of your society, besides the son of your parents. Taste is not in your grains. It is mostly a cultivated behaviour.

  11. Yes. It totally depends on personal taste and then also what is accepted by society. So, what is in 'good taste' is apt to change periodically.
