Do you think he may be married?

My mechanic is way older than me but I like him (im 30, he's 50ish). He owns his shop and he's always counting wads of money in front of me, telling me his house is paid for and making questionable statements like "I just want to do what you want me to do" He also does a lot of work on my car for free. The other day I got up the nerve to ask him if I can treat him to coffee or a meal in appreciation of all the free work he's done for me- he told me "that won't be necessary" He didn't say if he was married or not he just left it at that. I did a little snooping and looked up the deed to his house online it says he bought the deed from her in 1989. Nobody that I know can tell me if he is married or not

Ask him or you can look it up online and see if there is a divorce reccord.

Uh...simple.  Ask him if he's married.  If he says no, ask him out for coffee, but tell him it's to get to know him better, not for something he's done for you.  What have you got to lose?

You sound like you are after his money and you have no right to be looking up information on his deed.  If you want to know ask him outright

Well dont act stockerish you'll appear freaky!!! But the next time you see him just say hey i would really like to grab some lunch or coffee sometime!! or throw a party with your friends and they're husbands and invite him.
