  1. My kids were destined to be freaks; I am their mother, after all.  I figure that by homeschooling I will spare them twelve years of pain and humiliation until they can get to college, where freaks are valued.

  2. I would personally hate being home schooled, because i exist on social experiences, and i would think being homeschooled would be really boring, you dont get your friends in your classes or anything

i was home schooled when i was very young but i dont particularly remember it

school is the main activity for most kids and most everything is focused around school, so i would imagine feeling like there was a void in my life if I were to be homeschooled

also you learn a lot from other kids, and you get to see many different perspectives

however i bet you get way less homework than i do...  :(

  3. aight as everyone may have herd before i went back to public school this year after 4 years of homeschooling (im in 9th grade now) anyway to tell u the truth u get a little more socialization in public school but the better part of ur day is spent sitting in a classroom listening to a teacher talk and u dont have the chance to talk to frinds at that time....And as for the homeschooled kids are freaks that bogus there is waaaay nerdy kids at my school wich has like 8000 students but i went to a p.e thing every friday with like 500 every friday and maybe 1 or two were on the weird or geeky side only because their parents have taught them to be like that and they havent YET come to the realization that their paremnts cant conrol everything they do,ill admit some homeschooled parents are weird but not all wen my mom homeschooled me i played high school sports and she was never home so i had freedom ....point being homeschooled kids generally have less experience around a wide variety of people but thats only until they get a job wich just about every homeschooled frind i have has a job ranging from ages as young as 13 now tell me a public school kid that gets hired at 13...nobody and if they did its because they work for their mom or dad, jobs actually hire u way faster if u tell them  your homeschooled and they now allow u to work while school is in as l;ong as your parents or guardian signs i have aot of homeschooled frinds and none of them are weird  or freaks

  4. I home schooled all 5 of my children & I think that they turned out quite well.

My oldest is an attorney in California, doing very well.

Next son & his wife are serving our country in the military.

Oldest daughter works for Harley-Davidson, part of the design team for motorcycles.

My two youngest, won a scholarships to a military school & on their placement exam scored high enough for both to be admitted to their senior year. So this year they are giving boarding school a try.

No, I think they have turned out quite well, but then, I was their teacher.

  5. Dear, stop judging yourself on how others think you are.  You'll be better off for it.

    Blessed be

  6. That's true.  There are successes and failures in brick school, only FAR more failures than successes!

The opposite is true in homeschool.  The successes out number the failures.

That average homeschooler is college ready by 16 or 17.

  7. NO.  Homeschooled kids are kids like all others.  Some are social, some are shy, some are rebels, some are nerds, most are good kids, a few need to have consequences for their behavior so they can learn to be good kids.

Notice that if I took the word "homeschooled" out of that paragraph and put in "Publicly Schooled", the paragraph would still be true.  That is because there isn't much difference between homeschooled kids and Public School kids except for the method, and usually the quality, of their education.

  8. No, they are normal people.

  9. no body ever said that to us  home schoolers rock

  10. well i haven't met one but i don't think they're freaks. i don't really know how it works but someone basically needs to occasionally check up on your work right? i think home schooled kids are smarter but thats not a bad thing. besides, when my mom teaches me something at home, she always gets mad and yells at me so i prefer school better. my mom was a great teacher but then again, you can't yell at school.

  11. I don't think the kids are freaks. A lot of the parents are, though.

  12. Home schooling is simply an alternative to conventional schooling, and one of many educational choices available to anyone.

The word "alternative" is the key, anything not "main stream "is considered to be "different".

You may want to look, and listen closely because people are always grouping themselves in one category or another, young people and adults alike.

People name themselves, nerds, emo, punk, jocks, geeks, freaks, zealots, or whatever else. Why? Who knows! Maybe they have to much idle time on their hands.

The media, and teen pop cultures love to play into these fads as well.

Just because people are called one thing or another does not make it so.

It is simply annoying, and ignorant on the part of those who feel the need to call themselves, or others these names.

It is often used to play a silly game of one-up-man-ship, or to put people down.

This is an age old dilemma, and every generation has to deal with it in some way shape or form.

  13. Sometimes children are home schooled because they do have problems fitting into main stream education either because or personality or behavioural issues or it may be due to relgious reasons or even that they are not challenged by the curriculum offered at their local school. Regardless of the reason, it is important that the children are provided are with ample opportunities to socialise with others in a variety of situations. To survive in the world, we need to be able to deal with all types of people and to toughen ourselves to less pleasant things in life.

  14. Nope..i even think that homeschool'd ppl are smarter then people in school cuz in homeschool you can finish the whole high-school for a year...!

  15. I work at the public school.  I home school my son.  I know many public school students and many home school students.  All teens are weird. (smile)

I don't see any more weirdness in the home school world than I see in the public school world.   The public school students are sheltered more from real life because everything is controlled in their choices.  Home school students seem to be more in control of their education because they can make their own choices in studies based on their individual goals.

  16. is this really a question? i dont think anyone thinks that home schooled children are freaks, losers, dumb, smarter...whatever ur learning the same thing as kids in public/private schools

  17. Some homeschooled kids are a little freaky; but the same goes for some public schooled kids, too. It certainly doesn't apply to all of either group.

You're right, it is unfair. Nobody ever said that those who were prejudiced were fair.

  18. well....I dont think of myself as weird, but I have met people who are VERY prejudiced against homeschoolers, but most people are like "your homeschooled?cool!",I get plenty socialization, and have a strong relationship with my mom.

And when was the last time you saw a homeschooler with a purple mohawk?.....personally I never have.....and isnt that a great deal weirder than going to college early?
