for those who dont agree with a complete ban, do you think the races should be less strenuous on the horses and they should remove the jumps?

  1. yes its cruel to the poor little horses i mean really if you were in the horses position would you want someone on you telling you to go faster i don't think so.

  2. YESSSSS.. DEFINATLEY. i feel bad for those poor animals

  3. These people that are against horse racing are the same fools that try to disrupt the Olympic Torch Runs because of so-called "beliefs", "morals" and "cruelty", which they really don't know about.

It's just sick that people here want Eight Belles to suffer for life and give up hope like the owners of Barbaro did. Horses cannot recover from leg injuries like humans do, and horse racing has been around since before all of the people here were born, so they cannot be called "experts" on animal cruelty.

The so-called "animal lovers" are here just to light fires and cause trouble like PETA does when they throw animal blood and red paint at people that wear fur and leather clothing.

It's just how things are when horses are put down. There are thousands of horses put down every day all over the world by farmers and owners when their legs break or suffer irrepairable damage to their legs. People just don't see it happen and think they do, especially the delusional leftist liberal extremists living in urban areas, that pretend to be animal lovers.

  4. your right..get rid of the races and just kill all of the horses

  5. yes its horrible and inumane to work any animal until they die or collapse : [

  6. Yes! Along with greyhound racing, rodeos, and bullfighting.

I think it's absolutely sick how people can find that entertaining. It's absolutely sick and arrogant to use animals for entertainment.  If people choose to go into sports, it's their choice, animals don't have a choice.  The tide is turning though. I see a lot of younger people with old souls. The younger generation will not put up with this and it will all be eventually banned.

  7. The question itself is loaded, and purely designed to push an obvious agenda for someone who is completely ignorant of racing.

There are no "jumps" at the Derby, or at any other racetrack.  Someone is really, really confused -- probably by reading equally uninformed "animal-rights" websites.  One would think that they would at least be able to differentiate between horse racing and jumping events, like in the Olympics. They don't quibble much over the Olympic equestrian activities, where the jumps are amazingly high (and injuries rather rare, also).

There is some argument for perhaps requiring that the racehorses be a year or so older for the Triple Crown races, but claiming that behind racing there is some hidden "appalling treatment" occurring is purely nonsense and propaganda, being pushed by the ignorant for reasons that are likely more psychological than objective.

No, I don't think horse racing should be banned.  And it won't be.  If it were, thoroughbreds would become extinct since there is little other reason to pick them for any other equestrian activity.  They are a throwback, basically, to the time when incredible acceleration & speed were essential to escape a predator.  Man adapted them to many other useful breeds like draft & war horses, or hunters -- heavier and far sounder, but slower.  There's always a tradeoff.

Ban racing, and the oldest (and arguably the most magnificent) horse lines will disappear, since there is little other use for their abilities.

  8. yes remove jumps

and make it less stressful for the horses

  9. it should be banned with all the injuries and all the commotion just for a race lasting a couple minutes. horse racers and betters are PATHETIC!

  10. Yes! At least until they can tell us if they want to, like Mr. Ed (old show) where they would put tiny shards of glass in his gums to make it look like he was talking.

    Animals = noble... people= ????

  11. OMG i never knew that these poor horses had to go through such ferocious and inhumane treatment. I never really liked horse racing. I actually thought that the horse liked it. But i was horribly wrong. Horse Racing SHOULD BE BANNED. ITZ NUTHING BUT A CRUEL AND RECKLESS SPORT & INTEREST THAT IS QUITE SIMILAR TO GAMBLING.

  12. How is horse racing considered a sport? Forcing an animal to run beyond it's physical capabilities is not a sport and watching a beautiful horse break down on the track is not entertainment.  Horse racing condones animal cruelty to a certain extent and as such, should be banned.

  13. Any form of animal racing should NOT be considered a 'sport' and banned in every state! People who own the animals do it to make money at the expense of the animal's health. People who gamble on an animal's win, eventually meet with financial and family destruction.  ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€ÂœIn gambling the many must lose in order that the few may win” - George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)

  14. I was about to post the same question.  I think its really time we start evaluating how important this sport really is.  It seems to me like a vanity sport where people with gambling addictions and sports jockeys are the only ones benefiting from this sport at the horse's expense. This is only my opinion.

  15. YES!!!!! I TOTALLY agree with you!

People just sit with their money and their stupid fluffy hats with bouncing sh*t coming out of the top and dont realize what the horses are being put through! I didnt make it to the television in time but when i found out this morning i was heartbroken. Its so sad how people put young horses in like that for MONEY. Its really depressing. I would be so mordified if my favorite horse on this planet was put into a big shindig like that and had to be put down for breaking to ankles.

    I'll pray for Eight Bells.

  16. The horse has a natural instinct to run.  Ignorant humans "interpret" this instinct as a horse's "desire to run" in order to sugar coat this barbaric sport.  Read the other horse racing news-trainers and veterinarians being banned for injecting cobra venom as a powerful pain killer.  Then the horse is run to it's limits.  No wonder they break down.  Boycott racing.  Boycott the sponsors.

  17. Have you ever watched the Kentucky Derby? There aren't any jumps, you're stupid. NO horse racing should not be banned what an ignorant question. Idiot
