  1. I reckon it goes on in most sports.Anyone who claims a horse is a cert is kidding themselves. For the past few months people have been claiming they have definitely backed the winner of the Gold Cup on friday. The racing forums will be packed with the same amount of people who have lost and clam it was fixed.

Treat it as a lottery in which you can narrow your odds. That's as sure as you can be .Somethings got to win it's just a matter of picking it. I only found out recently that greyhound races can be fixed by giving the dog a huge meal before the race so it loses to other advantages....God help us.

Just remember never bet more than you can afford to lose.

  2. Of course. BUT not in the ways you might think. There might be one or two Jocks/drivers trainers whatever, that want to finish 2nd instead of in because it's beneficial to them on the whole. The race conditions lend itself to this.

  3. horseracing should just be banned outright.

It's not even a sport! It's just a betting thing.

    Very rubbish!

  4. certainly the sticks are because of the low prize money, and even some of the cheap selling plate races, but mostly flat racing isnt, jumps id watch out for!

  5. Years ago, race 'fixing' was rife, but these days it's very, very rare that a horse gets 'nobbled.' The problem is, horses are little like us.... they do have their 'off' days, they're not always 100% fit, they may not have travelled well, and could also have the onset of a virus etc, etc..... and some just don't act on the going. Why do you think the bookie is laughing all the way to his Rolls Royce?

ps. The only horses I follow always seem to follow other horses....

  6. erm ...yes! hasn't keiron fallon been investigated about a zillion times

  7. It depends on what you call a "fix". If you are suggesting that the sport is corrupt in general then I'd disagree. But some owners and trainers have ways of making a horse seem hopeless and then surprising the punters with an unexpected win. There are too many factors stopping someone making the outcome of a race fully predictable.

As for the bookmakers - well they always weigh the odds so that they will make money unless the freak outcome happens.
