Ok hello everyone, i would like some feedback and would appreciate your help. Today my assistant manager saw my engagement ring( i am a guy) Asked me if i was engaged i said yes, i decided to tell them her name. After i did my manager laughed and said ****** her name is a S****y name haha. He is always making wise cracks, so for him to say that isnt out of character. So i was like well that is what i thought about your name. I said it to shoot back at him, we joke around at eachother all the time. But this time i thought he went too far to say such a thing. I didnt say much more and then later that day, i asked him if i could have a word with him.(i talked to my family to see what they thought, they all said it was not a nice thing to say joke or not. I told him very calmly and matter of factly everything i felt. I told him i thought he cut it too close to the line, that it was not a nice joke. He got defensive and said he was only joking, and that i was blowing it up.He at one point told me he didnt give a **** what other people said, they werent there to see first hand what happened. I kept trying to point out that i didnt appreciate what he said, until finally i said i am asking you to respect my opinion that is all. He was like yea i can respect your opinion and walked off. Then he talked to the assistant manager (his son) then i came out and he had left(early might i add). He is always saying negative things to me, if a customer compliments me he down plays their positive comment. Saying something sarcastic(in a joke haha form) Like a customer said i was a patient salesman, then he said well he has you fooled "haha". Or something like that. What do you think? I know what i think, but i want some opinions.

  1. This answer is going to sound like a joke, but it's not a joke.

If my direct superior treated me like that I'd more than likely rip into him so hard he fired me.  I've never had the misfortune to work for a complete d-bag as you seem to have..

And I'm sorry to hear it.

Stick up for yourself. If you're a good salesperson jobs are a dime a dozen and you don't need to deal with that garbage.  Just have fun with the nepotistic b*****d until you can find something better.

    And yes, I'm being serious.

  2. Yes you were doing the right thing.  Any time an employer or another employee makes you the butt of their jokes are pure aholes.  When you work for places that are "family orientated" seems like the relatives are the lazy ones.  I would look else where, but try not to burn any bridges, you may need a reference.
