  1. Basic training sounds scary but most guys survive.  It's a challenge, for sure, but you can do it.   I had a friend who was about 50 lbs overweight who went into the Army.  He made it through basic, and he even lost weight and looked pretty good for a while.  I believe the services will take someone with asthma, and will make allowances.

Did the doctor say it would go away in a few years?  I never heard that.  I have a cousin who had it growing up and she still has it but it doesn't bother her as much anymore, maybe she just is better at dealing with it.

Anyway, tell the recruiter you have asthma, and if they take you you'll probably do okay.

  2. Asthma after your 13th birthday is disqualifying. After your first attack you are gone. If you use drugs or an inhaler both would be confiscated as contraband too. Since your need for either tells the story you would be on your way out.

    Don't waste their time please.

  3. Really is will depend upon how bad the MEPS station doctors will see it as. There is Waivers for almost everything in the military (or at least in the Army). The only way you will know is to go and try to enter active duty. They will give you a physical at the MEPS station before you are released to head off to Basic training.

Basic is a breeze now days, it is physical and you will get winded almost everyday, but all in all it will make you a better person as long as you dont have an attitude issue and can pay attention.

  4. No . Sorry dude

Why dont you become a cop?

  5. Well the only way is to find out. Go to your local recruiting office and inquiry about it. You'll fill out some paper work and questions, i.e background and known medical conditions. Some offices are more lax then others. Once that's done you'll get to spend a nice night in a hotel near your local procession station for MEPS. You'll go through every from eye test to physical and some other things... After that your recruiter will inform you if you can enlist or not.

But yes people who have asthma can pass basic training.

  6. Worse. Once you're in the military and discover that it is more rigorous than anything you ever did, then they run you though the gas chamber and your asthma attacks you like never before, you are on the hook for a boat load of trouble for lying to them from the beginning.

  7. I think that you can. just don't syke yourself out over it

    or broadcast it....no pun intended.
