since i was really young, i've always wanted to go to harvard. and my test scores and grades are always close, but not right at the top.

i'm a white female fromt the midwest if that makes a difference.

ACT-34

SAT-2100(retaking this fall)

SAT subjects:

Math 1- 760

Math 2- 800

Spanish - 540

(i know these are a problem. i'm going to take some more this fall. which ones should i take?)

GPA- 4.0

Rank-1/90ish

i have taken pretty much the most difficult class load possible at my school. however, since this is a small town school, i was only able to take one AP class, and couldn't take honors classes until junior year.

EXTRACURRICULARS:

junior class president- this is actually a ton of work at my school. i had to plan and deliver christmas to 20 families around the community, plan fundraisers, hold class meetings, and chair the prom committee (which sounds easy but was HORRIBLE)

-math team (captain in 11 and 12)

-knowledge bowl

-nanny for the last four years (huge time commitment during the summer, 30 hours a week. during the school year, only before school)

-planned and orchestrated a spaghetti benefit/raffle/silent auction/t-shirt sale for a student in my high school with cancer. raised 5,000 dollars.

-national merit... at least commended.

think that's it.

my other choice is the university of minnesota.

what are my chances for those two schools?

thank you so much.

please don't answer if you are just going to be rude.

thanks!!

  1. You should apply to about 7-11 schools, and I think you might be competitive for a top school.  Come up with other schools such as Dartmouth, Yale, maybe Brown--you need to see if the schools match your interests.  You explain that you are from a small school and that will help you.  Please do more homework and don't just have your sights set on Harvard as a top school.  Good luck! UM no problem.

  2. Nowadays, there are at least 20,000 students who apply for Harvard from all over the world every year. But only 1,700 students are accepted. You have to make yourself noticeable in the eyes of an admission officer.

My brother's friend is an assistant dean for admission office at Yale. So I got lots of advice from him and I got into UPenn Wharton.

I think your gpa and extra curriculars are good.

but I think you should have some awards.

Did you participate in AIME or USA olympiad?

If you have that, then i think you should be able to get in.

  3. I'm not sure why you are asking this question on Yahoo! Answers.  98% of Yahoo! users could not locate Harvard on a map let alone affirm your credentials.

Just so you know, Harvard is NOT easy to get into.  I applied with a 760 math / 720 verbal, #1 in my class, class president, academic decathlon, volunteer organizations and more.  I got outright rejected.

  4. you sound like a very beautiful and smart woman. I don't know what half of those acronyms mean, but they all look real great. I'm sure you've got it covered in the curricular part that Harvard might be looking for.

good luck, you can do anything. :P
