Question:

Do you think if I put more wood on top of my dresser will my dresser be more sturdy for 500lbs?

this is for my 55 gallon fish tank my dresser is about 52 inches and my fish tank is 48 inches if i put a long peice of wood on top of my dresser to steady it out from not bending the dresser will that actually woork???

  1. If the problem with your dresser is it sags in the middle, you can put another set of legs or another type of support in the middle underneath the dresser.  It wouldn't hurt to put an additional top on it either.  The real issue isn't so much the top or the bottom though,  it is the structure of the dresser.  If it is an IKEA dresser;  DON'T DO IT!


  2. If your tank is wider than your dresser it wont bow, it cant.

    The weight is covering the whole top.

    If it were a short tank and the weight was focused in the middle it could bow over time.

    The area of concern would be the legs.

    Make sure their strong legs.

  3. Buy a tank stand and do it right.

  4. Only if your dresser is not particle board.If it is wood then yes as long as all edges of tank are on the new top.I used an old stereo,everyone wants to know where I got my cabinet lol.
