we all become vegetarian, or make it illegal to kill animals, that their will be too many cows, pigs and other animals. Then we'll have to start killing them for no reason? Why or why not?

  1. If humans did NOT make cows go through CONTINUOUS cycles of pregnancy through means of artificial insemination, so that they can later strap her b*****s on a machine, if humans did not BREED "farm" animals, if humans did not intervene, I can assure you that such problem will be inexistant.

  2. No. Think about why we have them to begin with. If there was no one to eat them they wouldn't exist in our current society as they were created for that purpose.

  3. I've answered similar questions before but really, it's very hard and rather pointless to speculate on something that will never happen. It's just like one of those "if you were stranded on a deserted island.." or "if all the animals (or plants depending on the Asker) died would then eat...". No answer is really right or wrong anyway.

  4. First of all, why would we become vegetarians?

Second, No, we would just go back to being carnivores and eat them.

  5. I am inclined to believe that if there was a sudden increase in vegetarian diets where the majority of human population was vegetarian- that because we have already bred such a large population of animals to consume- that at first, yes, there would probably be a dramatic increase in animal deaths.

If it was made illegal to eat animals/kill animals, I would think the government would have a program ready to distinguish the population slowly (i.e. allow the current overlow of population to be eaten until gone, discontinue overpopulation). Of course, this is just an idea.

After a population decrease (because so many will no longer be needed to feed humans), the population *should* balance itself out. Mother nature is wonderful at this, unfortunately, she has to deal with us humans s******g up her population control. Because of us and our desire to manipulate animals, I, sadly, think 1. it won't happen any time soon and 2. we will still control their population in an unhealthy way to consume  products with animal biproducts in it (like eggs, milk, what not).

    Just a thought.

  6. We don't eat Aardvark nor Zerbra and they do fine, dont they ?

Animal populations reach a natural equlibrium. The only species to which this does not apply is humans and we seem h**l-bent on a course to unsustainabillty.

Just as many people will suggest if we don't eat "cows, pigs and other animals" they will go extinct.

Really, both sides of the arguement need to get together and sort out a common belief. To see so many people propose complete opposite views makes me believe they are all applying "guesswork" rahter than mathematics to population modelling.

Its a bit arogant of humans to suggest that animals need us to help control thier population.

edit: sorry, but your mom sounds about 5 years old. Just because she is your mom does not mean she actually knows anything. Believe me, there are plenty of parents who cannot string a sentence together and thier advice or "knowledge" should be taken with a pinch of salt

Just ask her, calmly and simple; "how do you know that mom ?"

Then tell her to email me rather than try feeding false information to people whom she is supposed to be nurturing.

  7. Hmm.. I think if you make things illegal then people will want it more.. Like drugs.. Just to rebel.. If we dont kill the animals we eat, it would be good for us.. We could train the dangerous ones, right?

    GO VEGANS!

  8. Yeah, I think its kinda the way it is with people. They just keep reproducing. We wouldn't have places to put them all or food to give them.

  9. I don't think the cows, chickens and pigs would overrun the Earth.

Reason being: humans who pump the animals full of hormones and artificially inseminate them & force them to produce is waaaay outside of what they would do naturally. A dairy cow, for example, is inseminated once every 11 months so she'll have calves and continue to produce milk. If she was allowed to breed naturally, she would have a calf once every few years.

I think if humans stepped out of the picture and stopped manipulating nature, the populations would be just fine if everyone were to suddenly give up eating meat.

  10. no the world would be in balance naturally how its meant to be

  11. we should just leave things how they are now
