  1. Let me answer with another question.

If we are to apply the same laws then should it not be legal to put down a sick relative?

  2. Definitely.. pets should be under the same laws as children, because they need the same care.

  3. Okay I am sure I will get some slack for this one....but I think it depends on the situation. Is it on purpose or by accident (ex - run them over on the road, hunting and accidentaly shot a dog that ran infront, etc) or was it on purpose and for entertainment (dragging a dog behind a vehicle, killing a cat in a microwave; both things happened recently in the news) or was it because that pet did something like kill another animal, bite a child, did it get sick, etc.

If a person accidentally killed your or their own pet then no, there really shouldn't be any punishment. The person probably feels so much guilt as it is, and it was not on purpose.

IF it was for entertainment, then yes they should be punished, plus often these are very public cases and society will also punish this person in their own way, but still it does not equal the same punishment as killing a human.

Killing a pet for a reason like biting or killing another animal, then no, any animal that shows this much aggression (I will say that dogs meant for this purpose such as guard dogs or herd dogs, hunting dogs etc are exempt) should be put down before they cause any more damage or harm.

Basically to sum it up, a human life is not = to animal life. Yes animals deserve respect, they deserve to have a safe life, but they are still animals. With todays society treating animals more and more like humans it seems that the line between animal and beast is being blurred. Too many people treat animals as if they are human, putting clothes on them, feeding them at the table, celebrating birthdays, etc.....ANIMALS DON"T CARE!! All an animal wants is food, shelter, attention and a job in most cases. Humans have the ability to live as independant people earning their way in society, animals  (except for wild) depend on people for survival.......defientely not the same equivillance in life.

  4. No.  No matter how much you'd like to think humans and animals are the same...they're not.  There should be punishments, of course, and sometimes they need to be severe.

  5. no. it depends on the motive. bu seeing as you cant tell, then no it shouldnt as long as its killed humanely. and they can tell if you shot it, quickly, or strangled it to death or puked it with a knife everywhere.

  6. No.. However, I think there should be stiffer punishment for some things.

For instance, if someone steals someone else's pet and kills it to make the pet and it's owner suffer, that should be a felony. However, I think someone should be allowed to humanely kill a suffering animal. If you live in the middle of nowhere and have a pet that is grievously injured, you should be able to humanely kill it without being charged with cruelty. You should also be allowed to raise animals for meat so long as slaughter is done according to humane standards..

For me, it pretty much comes down to the motive for killing the animal. If the motive was to cause suffering of the animal and it's owner, that should be a felony. If the motive was meat, to prevent further suffering in an extremely ill or injured animal, or to protect another pet or human then it should be legal.

  7. Yes.

  8. No, but there would be some servere punsihment still =D
