No.  Immigrants have added to it.  Where would the US be without pasta and spaghetti.  It was once thought that the Irish and the Italian would destroy the American way of life.  Rather it proved to augment it.

Yes, the huge number of immigrants that the USA lets in every year, almost 2 million, is hurting our national unity. The illegal aliens have no loyalty to our nation, and the Mexican immigrants  are loyal to Mexico first. Britian will be a Muslim nation by next century, if they don't cut back on Muslim immigration and expel the radical Islamists.

Multiculturalism is destroying our nation's unity.

What you said, "diversity causes more division than unity."  Anyone who denies that is being politically correct.  Immigrants aren't assimilating like they used to.  In fact, many hate the country and the people of the country who gave them the opportunity to live there.  It's going to change the world drastically.  It's the legacy we'll leave for our children.  The western world will lose *its* culture.

What we have here is a clear cut case of "Culture Clash". The result will be a mutation of all of the cultures involved. No particular culture will survive in its purist form. Change is inevitable.

Questions like this cause division, the media cause division, the ruling elite cause division, the immigrants themselves have caused division. I think the crucial point is this ...........

The country that the Immigrants  go TO, is the most important factor.

If the country has a negative attitude towards newcomers, and makes them feel like dirt, the outcome is all ready decided.

  If  on the other hand, the new country goes out of it's  way to make peole feel welcome and provides EQUAL opportunities to everyone, regardless  of their country of origin,   and  passes laws to protect everyone from discrimination, then that country is to be admired.

Of course, I'm  talking about Canada.

Only the " Aboriginals " can claim to NOT be immigrants.

Everyone  else  in Canada   has an immigrant in their family tree somewhere. As a "nation of immigrants " we Canadians understand that we need more people , every year, to come here and help us build our great nation.. What  does a Canadian look like ?  Like  people from every country on the earth, but all of us are living in one place now .

That place is Canada.

Each immigrant group wants to end immigration after their assimilation.  This is a customary response of many who embrace their new country.

What would have happened if the borders had been closed prior to each groups arrival?  Think about it.

Interesting is the reaction to Mexican border issues and the treatment of Native Americans.   This is the land of their ancestors.  They are being treated as strangers.  There is an ethical question to raise in their regard.

Does Mexico want to become the 51st State?  It would resolve many of the issues.  It would increase the land mass of the US.  This frontier would ad a new element of diversity.

Illegal Immigrants do. They're less willing to assimilate and that makes them more prone to commit other crimes.  I see it play out EVERYDAY here in California.
