  1. actually i do

it seams like alot are already getting board with snowboarding and are already switching

there is so much more you can do on skis

    i already see this happening

  2. Probably about the same number of skateboarders switching to inline skates.

  3. I was at a snowboarding sales meeting/clinic in 2005 and a lot of the reps felt that snowboarding was reaching its plateau.

There are probably just as many new snowboarders as there are people switching to skiing or are quitting snow sports all together.

However, I think snowboarding will always be a popular sport among the poorer kids as snowboarding gear (boots, bindings, boards) are not rising in cost as much as freestyle skiing gear. The price of ski boots alone has doubled in the past 3 years due to the increasing cost of oil and the refing needed to turn it into boot quality plastic.

It has taken close to 30 years for snowboarding to reach the point it is now and it's growth has already started to wane. Meanwhile, skiing has been around (on the commercial scene) for close to 100 years and is still growing. AT, Freeride, and Telemark sales have soared in the past ten years and seem to be growing.

It is quite possible that new skiers will just progress to the parks and jibs and pipes on skis and skip a detour through snowboarder land. If that happens, the only snowboarders that will be left in 30 years will be people over 40. By that time Alta and Mad River Glen may finally let them on their slopes as they will have grey hair and be popping Geritol and thus be viewed as less of a threat...although I can guarantee some of them will STILL be going down the slopes sideways and still taking all of the snow with them when they do....jackasses.

  4. Yeah.  there is so much more you can do on skis.  snowboarders will want to go bigger and have more versatility, which they can do on twin tips.
