Question:

Do you think interracial marriage dilutes culture?

I'm half Filipino half Chinese, and I have never been to Philippines nor China. I speak English only, but did learn a little Mandarin in school. Other than food and occasional Filipino gatherings, I don't know much about either culture. What do you think?

  1. Of course not. Interracial marriage does not dilute culture. What dilutes it is your failure to take the trouble to actively learn about both your cultures, as is your responsibility. Why blame it on your parents??

  2. no but the habits can be rough...my daughter married a Mexican...too long to explain..

  3. It can do as you have shown, but as the other answers suggest, cultures can be strengthened by two different cultures coming together, they can learn and benefit from each other (in your case three cultures) respecting learning and passing on beliefs, values etc to the descendants. It really is up to the descendants to learn the cultures of both parents oin order for both of their cultures to be appreciated, respected....and for self respect - you are three cultures, you will be respecting the three different parts of your make up.

And to further the issue you are also one mixed culture (or the merging of 3 diluted cultures)  making a new culture if that makes sense?

  4. That goes down to family choice. I'm surrounded by bi-lingual/tri-lingual and up to 6 languages spoken by individuals and even more cultures as a result of all the intermarriages in my family.
