Question:

Do you think it's a Legitmate fight between Kelly Pavlik and Bernard Hopkins?

Pavlik is a good fighter and has sort of a good chin, but moving up so quickly, especially in weight, to fight experience fighters is a good move? Rightly Hopkins is not an ultimately prime fighter he once was, but he is no joke when in the ring at any age. Some people think it's a race issue when I look at this fighter who just recently obtained and defended his current title. I don't think he is an explosive and knowledgeable fighter yet and think the class he is in does not hold the critic of greats it once held. Just wonder if he should have more fights in weight class before moving up at this point?

  1. i see another boring hopkins fight with pavlik winning a decision, b-hop not taking any chances (and who could blame him against pavlik) and hopkins hopefully retiring before he becomes a stepping stone.

carlos palomino once said "fighters are always the last to know when to retire".

barry mc guigan went one better when he said " fighters are always the first to know, but the last ones to admit it to themselves".

  2. Umm not really, I mean who really cares if Pavlik beats a past his prime old boxer in Hopkins. I really like Pavlik but no way am i ordering this fight. I screwed up and ordered Hopkins last two fights and they were just tooo boring. Pavlik has alot to lose but nothing to gain in this fight. Bad move by Pavlik. Bad news for boxing fans and just bad for boxing.! Peace.

  3. Nah, If he wants any credit at all for beating Hopkins he has to do it soon as possible. Im never counting Hopkins out because like Evander he has proven the neh sayers wrong over and over again.

But I think Pavlik is just too young, to hungry, too strong and too aggressive for Hopkins at this stage of Hopkins career. If you think Joe Calzaghe gave Hopkins problems at least Joe Calzaghe didn't have the power of Pavlik.

If i didn't know the kind of thick headed suborn pride Hopkins has Id say Pavlik knocks him out mid rounds. But knowing Hopkins he will not allow to let a white boy to knock him out.

I could see Hopkins taking allot of punishment and retiring after the fight.

Then again, Father time may shine down upon Hopkins and he could somehow manage to find away to win against the bigger, stronger, faster, younger and hungrier Pavlik. If Hopkins wins this fight it will be on wits alone, but Pavlik does not seem to be the type to give into mind games.

In the Calzaghe fight you could already see Hopkins timing was very faded as if the 40 some fights had finally caught up to him, All he could muster was random pot shots and clinching.

If that lackluster showing is all he can muster against Pavlik he might get seriously hurt.

The question shouldn't be is Pavlik ready for Hopkins. The question should be With all Hopkins has done and the money hes made, should he risk getting hurt fighting a dangerous puncher like Pavlik.

  4. Pavlik. 9th round TKO.

  5. Legitmate... Ha love you yanks  yeah well he beat 1 fighter taylor

they seem to think he is ready for the lot they put him in at number 10 pound 4 pound after beating taylor....is it rite or fair or Legit ?thats bull but who gives a **** anyway show that they mean nothing... he is good but cant say how good after two title

  6. I think he did move up to fast... and its smart to fight bernard... bernard still has a big name and a big reputation... but he is a boring fighter, so i dont even think this fight will be on ppv... but its a good experience...  kelly either learns his lesson that fighting a great boxer at his own weight is a bad idea or he wins and learns that he is unstoppable... if he ko's bernard, which is highly unlikely, he will be that much better... but if he loses, den its his own mistake for taking on bigger opponents at a fast pace... but if thats what it takes to get to the top den go ahead... i see pavlik winning anyways...

  7. No its not a real fight and here are my supporting arguments.

1.Legimate finacially in this recession is the only thing. promoters know they can't make money using one name against a no name and ask you to buy it on PPV

    2. pointless. Hopkins just lost a close decision to Calzaghe and his last 3 fights have been very boring and his age is showing now. Pavlik wanted a decent name fight this fall but Joe and everyone else was busy and this is a poor attempt at establishing kelly. he only defending the belt one time and is now moving back up again(after the taylor rematch) to fight Bhop.

3.Reason.benard wins and depending on how he fights he may get his name back at his age if it is a close fight were it is slow and unentertaining, people will just say that kelly gave the fight away. if kelly wins by decision it is expected. he would need a knockout to actually make the victory seem great being as how Bhop has not been Ko'd. If hopkins loses he loses nothing and will propably retire for good. if kelly loses he loses a lot of shine, but not the middleweight belt. SO WHAT ARE THEY FIGHTING FOR BESIDES MONEY?????

  8. in my view a great fighter of days gone long by ( Hopkins) disgraced himself in his fight with Calzege, my point being he didn"t really take any chances, he was lazy, and to be quite frank turned what could have been a great fight into a "farce".

In my view even 3 years ago Hopkins would have beaten Calzage comfortably.

As for Hopkins"s future he is not worth the price of admission today.

And I never thought i would such an opinion of what was a truly brilliant fighter.
