Well if the principle requires it or really wants you too I would. On the other hand 4th graders aren't going to care.

A tie always looks nice. Why don't you try one for a few days and see how it makes you feel? You might decide later that a more casual look is better; then again, the tie might be just the thing.

I think all teachers should wear ties and I think it is appropriate for the teacher to wear the tie.

Well, let me just say this. It's not inappropriate. It would be inappropriate if he wore a tie in, say, the shower, or while mowing the lawn. But in a social setting? Pretty appropriate if you ask me.
