  1. i suppose it depends how the person got the feathers. ive seen videos of people plucking the feathers out of geese and they just throw the bird on the ground when the are finished, and they are still alive

  2. No as birds shed them naturally and in the case of ostriches the meat is eaten and the leather goes to make a variety of products.

  3. no

  4. i don't use feather dusters,oh one i do have is fake feathers.But they spread dust,not hygienic

  5. No.  It is just as cruel as plucking your eyebrows.  And the bird can't do it himself.  It is part of nature, loose your hair, nails, skin, and then grow new.  Ostriches are bred for their meat, and the feathers are mostly, a by product.  (Btw. the whole bird is used up, except for the stones in its stomach.)

    Peace.

  6. Nope cause they are fake feathers

  7. No, bird naturally shed feathers.  It cruel I guess if these feathers were yanked out, without permission.

  8. yah if its still attached to the bird when you dust with it...

  9. Most of the feather dusters now have fake feathers..but even if they use real ones they could have just got them from birds shedding their feathers.

  10. well it depends....if the feathers were plucked right off the bird then yes, but  if the bird is molting and the feathers naturaly fall off then no

  11. It depends on how the feathers are sourced.

I saw some film footage from the Far East of live geese being plucked of their feathers whilst still alive. Completely put me off ever buying anything with down or feathers in it like duvets, pillows or those North Face down jackets, which I was almost on the verge of buying.

The looked like they were on the verge of going into shock afterwards, it must have been extremely painful. The feathers are allowed to grow back then they are plucked all over again. Pretty gross.

Some dusters are made from ostrich feathers (though not all) and like the other person said, they are probably a by-product from the ostriches being farmed for their meat.

  12. I use a swiffer, made from the finest swiff's.
