Do you think it's possible that tsunami's could have had a role in evolution?

It is said that man came from the sea,maybe every onland species began from a tsunami event.

  1. While tsunamis are destructive and may offer opportunistic organisms a chance to populate regions that they have cleared of life, there is no evidence that they resulted in colonization of land.

    There is extensive fossil evidence for the transition from water to land in tidal shallows.


  2. No.  Land animals evolved from fish that were able to walk on land.

    Tsunamis are too infrequent and small of an event to have a larger role in evolution.

I think it is quite possible that some species limited to isolated locations near the ocean may have gone extinct because of tsunamis.  However, I seriously doubt that tsunamis are the cause of the animals moving to the land.  The flooding environment created by a tsunami is too transient to support evolutionary processes in the wake of the flooding.
