  1. The old jeeps were very top heavy, the new ones arent nearly as bad as they used to be. Wider stance and a longer wheel base have dramatically improved the probability of a roll-over...not to mention new technology as well. If its a 2008 I would not be worrying about a roll-over too much.

For everybody that says otherwise please see the link below. Wrangler achieved a 4 star roll-over rating from the NHTSA...on par with most other SUV's. A slight lift (1-3 inches) will not affect this rating, anything more you're looking at 3 stars.

  2. Lifting any vehicle raises the center of gravity and makes it more likely to roll over.

The step-mom bought the jeep!   And where were you?

Changing the specs on a new vehicle may void all drivetrain warranties.    Also,  lifting takes the vehicle out of the design specs and makes breakdown more likely.

All that said,   it isn't the vehicle itself that is dangerous,   it is how it is driven by the loose nut behind the steering wheel.

  3. The problem that Americans have is that they want the biggest, heaviest, poorest handling vehicle they can buy with ABS, traction control, stability control, forty airbags, GPS navigation, Bluetooth, and IR cameras, all to give the ILLUSION of safety.

But they all forget that THE DRIVER IS THE ONLY ONE CAPABLE OF GUARANTEEING SAFETY!  No, you're not going to rail a corner in a lifted Jeep like you can in a Subaru WRX, and if you flip the thing it's YOUR fault, not the Jeep's!

I drive a lifted Cherokee, and I know it's not built for the Monte Carlo Rally.  But it gets me around in 2' of snow without problem, and I know what it's capabilities are.

Jeeps are safe to lift, but the driver needs to understand the physics behind a heavy, high-profile vehicle and drive within the vehicle's limits.  That's just common sense, not rocket science!

  4. not safe

  5. "Lifted Jeeps are dangerous and don't handle regular driving on-road"...........................

  6. It won't be safe as they are top heavy to begin with.

Raising it higher will only make it worse!

  7. no wayyy!

lifts make it easier for any car or truck to flip over.

  8. Raising a center of gravity on any vehicle is not safe. It is especially unsafe on a short wheelbase vehicle such as the Wrangler, even the 4 door. This vehicle does not have stability control any side airbags or even any strength in the doors.

  9. Quite safe as long as you don't drive around any corners or go faster than 5 miles an hour.

In fact if you leave it parked at home it will be very safe. The son will be ok, as long as he doesn't actually get inside it.

Hope that makes you feel better.

  10. Jeeps tend to be rather top-heavy to start with.  Lifting the body above the frame, or modifying the suspension to make the car sit higher off the ground just makes the situation worse, and makes the car more likely to roll over in a panic situation. IT IS NOT SAFE!

  11. it all depends on the driver.. this topic reminds me of three-wheelers when they banned them. ive had them for 15 years and never flipped one.   like i said it depends on the driver who is going to be driving it,  but it would be a bit more difficult to manuver in those "other guy" mess ups.
