To get HIV testing before any physical intimacy begins? I mean you can never be too careful right? I think people have a right to know what their getting into beforehand.

You hear all those stories of people who get infected by their partners who they trusted and who lied and said they did not have the disease even though they did. Not only that but a large percentage of people who have an STD don't even know it.

So do you think it's too much to ask? Is it offensive to even ask this question?

  1. It is the responsible way to do it.  I have.  And if they take offense... Too Bad! Your health is worth more than their hurt feelings.

  2. You should both get tested.

  3. That's a good idea. It is much more safer to check. It shouldn't offend it's about safety if you think about it.

  4. I thought nowadays that most people found this compulsory.

  5. Not in the slightest. My spouse and I, early in our relationship, both went to get HIV tests before we stopped using condoms.

Phrase it as something you want to do, and not something you want your partner to do, and keep it light. As in, "Hey...before we get busy, I think I'd like to be responsible and get tested. My last boyfriend/girlfriend was a musician, and you know how they get around."

  6. that is not asking too much! thats called being smart. i wouldn't touch most women i know even if i was wearing 6 condoms.

  7. No not at all; this is a very serious matter; by doing so you are thinking of the two of you in the long run. Pulling a scenario out of my bonnet. There's this girl who has a venereal disease; only through ignorance she has no idea it's deadly; her bf and her make love; he contacts it and dies; suddenly they take her in, because the disease can only be sexually transmitted, and have her tested; to her horror she finds out she's the one who; without meaning to; has killed him. I wouldn't want that nightmare on my conscious.

  8. I would expect a new partner to get a full work-up. I would do the same. Sometimes things can incubate for years before producing any symptoms.

  9. Absolutley not! You're right, you can never be too careful and everyone should always know their status.

  10. Not too much to ask at all. If the other person has nothing to hide  than why would they not want to get tested? If someone refuses to get tested it's a major red flag. In this day and age one can never be too careful. Don't let them guilt you into trusting them either.
