Do you think it's weird for me to like anime and manga?

Question

I'm a 16 year old girl and i like that kind of stuff. I don't mean to brag but I am quite popular at my school and i have the appearance of a girl who's into fashion and make up and such (a prep). but really i'm into anime and manga. it's kinda embarrassing because my friends make fun of me for it. should I stop? do you think it's a big turn off for guys? I really like this anime and manga like Code Geass, Death note, fruits basket, ouran, etc. or should i just keep it a secret? =/

so what if they make fun of u if ne thing its probably a good thing cause u might be able to relate to more boys and might have stuff to talk about with someone whos into it rather than sitting and staring at one another feeling weird lol and code geass and death note r 2 of the best anime out there and if they keep making fun of u find something they like and do it back at em also there r alot of girls who like anime and ive been surprised at how many pretty girls actually r into it and remember everyone likes different things and if u stop watching ur urge to wana watch it will probably build up and if it embarasses ur friends if u go out for holloween dress like a character and go with em just to mess with em lol

I honestly don't think it's weird at all. I mean, it's what you like. So... don't try to change yourself for anyone. I mean, I kinda know what you mean... cuz I'm kinda the same way, but... I don't really care what others think about what I like or not. They don't have to like it, so who cares? Don't try to satisfy anyone but yourself.

If you don't mention it is fine.And i don't think popular is much a big deal in now a day....you must watch alot of anime. cause in my school no one use the term popular in school anymore....if they are hot,then just talk behind their back....but never use the term popular...But for real anime got nothing to do with real life, they get mixed up with it. And guys don't really care of what girl do anyway.....

its not weird, i like it too and im a prep but i dont tell my freinds. i hang out with some emo people who love it when my freinds arnt around and they dont seem to know. not sure if this helps  : /.

Naw why would it be weird? I'm not preppy but my cousin is REALLY preppy and I actually got her into liking anime. She likes Fruits Basket and Ouran as well as some other ones. Her friends think it's weird but they don't make fun of her for it. It's not like you should be ashamed of it! Other people are just jealous >:D [Not really...]

But they should be! Because we have imaginations and can enjoy things :]

But when most people look at anime they see cartoons. That's the problem.

Anyway, I for one don't think it's weird at all. Don't stop watching anime just because of what other people think. You don't have to keep it secret but you can always just not talk about it if it makes you uncomfortable or anything...

EDIT: By the way, all of the anime you mentioned are really good! And two of my best friends are really popular and they know that I watch anime. They don't like it but they don't make fun of it either. They like some weird things themselves!

It's just a hobby. Nothing to hide.

Certainly not weird...I know people in their 80's that LOVE anime to bits, they attend conventions and screenings etc.

I think you should not worry about your friends at school, some of your friends probably won't stick around for much longer then school. You will always find other friends who will always find you cool no matter what group you swim with.

I think if you like it you continue on with it, don't let other people dictate to you what you should and shouldn't like. If they have a problem with it its their problem...and I would say that they are not really good friends (friends accept whatever choices each other make or at least support, even if they think its a good idea or not.)

As for guys. While you might think a lot of guys who are into anime are typical otaku (geeks.) But there are a LOT of guys who are popular that like anime and manga.

Don't worry so much hey.

Side note: Geeks and nerds can make for some of the best friends you can ever hope to have. Also helps to have a friend who is tech savvy under your wing so if you ever have computer troubles you have someone to help you out.

If they're making fun of you for what you do, why are they your friends? I honestly don't see the point of repressing what you like to do just because what other people say.

There is nothing wrong with anime or manga. By the sounds of it your perfectly normal in every aspect, and watching anime is just your preferred style of TV. Don't stress out about it, even in the anime world you have an excellent taste in anime, if people tease you just relise its because they have no idea of what it is, show them some and there opinions can change. I've gotten plenty of friends watching anime, its great because then you can share animes and talk about all the crazy stuff that happens.

As for turn ons/offs. Who cares, I would love a girlfriend that i can talk anime with and watch things with.

As a side note: If you like Code Geass then i suggest Neon Genesis Evangelion, although be warned it is a very confusing anime at times, although one of the very best.

Just enjoy yourself and don't worry about what others say.
